Assignment Questions
AQ9- 1: What is spread spectrum communication? What is its primary advantage? What are the commonly used
spread spectrum techniques?
AQ9- 2: One period of a PN sequence is given by 0011101. Demonstrate the properties of maximum length sequences
for this sequence.
AQ9- 3: Consider the PN sequence 000100110101111. Demonstrate the properties of the PN sequence.
AQ9- 4: In the following diagram, the counter is initially reset and outputs A, B, C and D are all at logic 0. Find the
output D for 20 successive clock pulses. Check whether the output is a maximum length sequence.

AQ9- 5: Explain the properties of maximum length sequence generated from 3 stage shift register with linear feedback.
Verify the properties and determine the period of the given pseudo-noise (PN) sequence 01011100101110.
AQ9- 6: In the following diagram, the counter is initially reset and outputs A, B, C and D are all at logic 0. Find the
output D for 20 successive clock pulses. Check whether the output is a maximum length sequence.

AQ9- 7: Explain the need for spread spectrum modulation. Why Pseudo noise (PN) sequences are used in spread
spectrum modulation?
AQ9- 8: With neat block diagrams, explain the working of DSSS system with BPSK.
AQ9- 9: Define Processing gain and jamming margin.
AQ9- 10: Explain frequency hop spread spectrum with a neat block diagram. Distinguish between slow frequency hopping
and fast frequency hopping.
AQ9- 11: A fast FH/MFSK has the following parameters:
(a) The number of bits per MFSK symbol is 4.
(b) The number of hops per MFSK symbol is 5.
Calculate the processing gain of the system in dB.
AQ9- 12: In a DS/BPSK system, the feedback shift register used to generate the PN sequence has length equal to 19.
The system is required to have probability of error that does not exceed 105 . Calculate the processing gain
and antijam margin in Decibels. Use erf (3) = 0.99998.
AQ9- 13: A DSSS system has the following parameters:
(a) Bit duration = 4.095ms
(b) PN sequence chip duration = 1s
(c) Eb /N0 = 10 for average probability of error less than 105
Calculate the processing gain and jamming margin.
AQ9- 14: A DSSS system has the following parameters:
(a) Bit duration= 4ms
