Lesson plan 7 reflection (Earths Materials) - April 12, 2016

This is the seventh science lesson that I taught which was about the pollution (how
polluted water can be cleaned?). This lesson was observed by Mr.Garnel. I did my best to
plan for the creative lesson that taking into account to improve my prior areas of
development too. Which were writing different learning objectives that make the
students know what they will learn in the class that includes different blooms of
taxonomy? I also thought about applying inquiry-based learning strategy that makes the
students do a real science experiment. According to Friesen (2013) that John Dewey is
the theorist who encouraged the teachers to apply the inquiry based as a primary strategy
in the science classroom. This means the students are highly focused through involving
them in the learning process and exploration part through doing real science problem.
The students should be motivated through solving the problem and relate it to their
experience that builds their understanding by their prior knowledge. Thus, I applied this
strategy to making the students explore how polluted water can be cleaned. I prepared the
materials for each group which was polluted water, tap water, hand lens, plastic cup, and
the filter. They observed the water types first and wrote their notes. Then, they pour the
polluted water in the filter and observe. I also remind the students to be careful and did
not drink the water that they have. It was an interesting lesson that the students showed
how they understand the lesson by using materials and experiment, and answering the
questions. Even my collage mentor noticed that, and he sees how they involved in the
exploration part more than the other lesson parts. However, it was one thing that I have to
avoid it next time which is taking the half of the class explain and giving instructions. I
can improve this point through going around the groups and reminding them of the rules
and instructions.
