Dr. Madura
11/30/2016
Materials Needed:
- Pencil
- Tundra score
- Piano
Objective: Sight-sing the beginning through the end of the first
system on page 7 of Tundra by Ola Gjeilo.
Procedure:
1. Identify the time signature and starting beat: (4/4, we all come in
on the downbeat)
2. Students scan example for rhythmic repetitions or similarities
3. Set a tempo and chant the rhythm (on numbers or syllables)
tempo is quarter note = 66
4. Note any errors, and repeat to correct.
5. Identify the key signature, tonality and starting pitches: (No key
signature, modulates a few times the piece has a few tonal
centers, the tonal center at the beginning is A minor. Altos begin
on C, Soprano 2 begin on E and Soprano 1 begin on A.)
6. Scan for melodic patterns that are repetitive or similar and think
of solfege syllables (notice the Soprano 2 and Alto 2 similarity of
contour and note value duration through measure 10.)
7. Sing the tonic chord and starting pitches.
8. Set a tempo and sing through SATB on moveable do solfege.
9. Note errors, repeat to correct.
