WHERE IS MONTREAL?

Montreal is in the south of Quebec. The city


located on an Island on the Saint Lawrence
River.

WHAT IS MONTREAL
Montreal is the largest city in Quebec.
The population of Montreal is about 1,650,000 in
2011.
Montreal was founded on 1642 under the
direction of Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve
and Jeanne Mance.

THE FLAG OF MONTREAL


The red cross represents the "Christian motives
and principles which governed the founders of
the city."
The blue Fleur-de-lys (blue thing) represents the
French, the original settlers of Montreal.
A red Rose of Lancaster (read flower) represents
the English.
A thistle (the purple flower) represents the
Scottish.
A shamrock (the clover)
represents the Irish.

MONTREAL BIODOME
The Biodome is a place that shows the true nature of
America, by providing most amazing ecosystems. The
Biodome aims to raise awareness about the need to get
involved in protecting our natural heritage. The Biodome
has many different landscapes such as the humid Tropical
Rainforest, the Laurentian Maple Forest, which changes
with seasons, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Labrador
Coast and Sub-Antarctic Islands.

NOTRE-DAME BASILICA

The Notre-Dame Basilica is a very old basilica


located in Old Montreal. The church has the
most dramatic Gothic Revival architecture in the
world. The church was built in 1830 and cost
47,446 Canadian pounds.

OLD PORT OF MONTREAL

The Old Port of Montreal was used as early as 1611


but was redeveloped in the 1990s. On the Old Port
there is an Imax theater and the Montreal Clock
Tower. There is also a beach called the Plage de
l'Horloge which means Clock beach.

MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ART

The Montreal Museum of Fine Art is the biggest


museum in Montreal and it is one of the best
museums in Canada. The museum was
established in 1860 and has around a million
visitors a year.

LA RONDE

La Ronde in an amusement park owned my Six


Flags. It is the largest park in Quebec and the
second largest park in Canada. The park is 146
acres and has a total of 40 rides. A one day ticket
cost $65.99, a child ticket and a ticket for over 60
cost $48.99 and a child under 2 is free.

LA FONTAINE PARK

La Fontaine Park is 84 acres. It has two linked


ponds, a fountain and waterfalls. The park also
includes playing fields, tennis courts, and bike
paths.

MONTREAL BIOSPHERE

The Montreal Biosphere is a museum all about


the environment. It offers many activities and
shows many environmental issues with water,
global warming and many others.

MONTREAL SCIENCE CENTER

The Montreal Science Center is a science


museum opened in 2000. It has many interactive
exhibitions on science and technology, as well a
an IMAX theater.

LACHINE CANAL

The Lachine Canal is a canal running through


the southwest part of Montreal and is 14.5 km
long. While on the canal ride you can also see
many historical sites such as Fort Chambly.
