In the book Of Mice and Men George ends up killing his best friend Lennie at the end. It
was right for him to kill him because since Lennie had a mental disability he was always getting
in some sort of trouble. Yes he did kill Curlys wife and yes he did kill a dog but it was because
he had no control over his strength. When it comes to Lennie killing Curlys wife it was an
accident and it was not to happen for she was giving Lennie hard time. Lennie did know he did
a bad thing when he found out he killed her. For a moment he seemed bewildered. And then he
whispered in fright, I done a bad thing. I done another bad thing. ( Steinbeck, pg 91). If
Lennie did not have this disability he would have been treated just like everyone else. Even
George would tell him not to talk in some situations. but since he did have a disability, he was
forced to fear for himself since he was wanted dead. Even Lennie had known he did something
bad and knew there was not safe place for him.. I done another bad thing. ( Steinbeck, pg.
103).
George had done the only thing he could have done for Lennie. George knew if he did
not kill Lennie someone else would have but perhaps a more slow, painful death. Lennie knew
that if this was done it was for the better and so that he could finally get the rabbits he wanted so
badly. For the Rabbits, Lennie shouted, For the Rabbits, George repeated (Steinbeck, pg.
105). Curly had wanted Lennie dead anyways for what he did to his wife. Im gonna get him.
Im going for my shotgun. Ill kill the big son-of-a-bitch myself. Ill shoot him in the guts
-Curly (Steinbeck, pg. 96). George knew that the only way Lennie was safe was to kill him
himself so that he knew he was not killed because of hate but for love. George was not the only
person who thought he had to kill him even Slim Understood his actions. You hadda, George. I
swear you hadda - Slim ( Steinbeck, pg. 107). Even though what George did was wrong he
did it for the right reasons.

What George did was wrong and he does deserve to go to jail. Georges actions were
wrong and things could have been taken care of in a different way. George could have turned
Lennie into the authorities and had everything taken care of in an orderly manner. George does
deserve to go to jail for his actions on killing a person. Whether it be a friend or not it is still
murder and he deserved to be punished for his actions. George did not have to kill Lennie it was
something he did not fully think of doing before he did it.
