Draw SS attention and watch the Introductory Animation on the elesson: Initial Short Vowel i.
Introduce the letter and the sound it makes.
1. Write the letter on the board.
2. Point out the name of the letter.
3. Introduce the sound.
T says, The letter Ii makes the /i/ /i/ sound.
T says, SS repeat, i /i/ /i/ (letter-sound-sound).
Introduce the words that have the key sound as the initial sound.
1. Introduce each word with the FC (show picture side first).
2. Then, introduce the letter side of the same FC point out the
key sound in the word.
T says, The word insect begins with the /i/ /i/ sound.
T says, SS repeat, i /i/ /i/, insect!(letter-sound-soundword)-drill 3 times.
3. Repeat the procedure for the rest of the words.

* Do not focus on the definition of each word, showing the picture for each word should
help SS make associations between the word and the definition.

1. Have SS stand up and pair up.
2. SS do high-five with their partners: Right hands together/ Left hands together/ Both

4. Have SS sit up very nicely.

Activity 1: e-lesson Chant Initial i (SB pg.98) (5mins)


Show the e-lesson page Chant Initial i.
1. Have SS listen and repeat the keywords in the chant.
2. Play the chant and have SS listen first.
3. Go over the lyric and practice chanting with SS (without music).
Then, chant with SS (with music).
At the end, clap for SS good work.
* SS can chant along as a whole class, in teams, or individually. T can invite SS to
the floor zone, and show them how to do actions for the keywords while chanting
along. Give pts to the enthusiastic team.

Activity 2: e-lesson Practice Initial i (bottom part of SB


pg.97) (5mins)
Show how to write letter Ii (big & small).
1. Demonstrate how to write big I in the air clearly and slowly.
T says, 1, 2, 3, I.
2. Have SS practice writing big I in the air. Then, SS say the letter
after writing.
3. Repeat the procedure with small i.
4. Correct SS writing skill if necessary.
* T should avoid reversed writing and emphasize on the writing order. This
activity should be done quickly.

Show the e-lesson page Practice Initial i (next page) to practice


the keywords.
1. Enlarge question no.1.
2. Have SS drill the name of the picture and the initial sound.
3. Invite one student to the e-lesson zone and write the answer.
4. Check the answer with the e-lesson. Drill the answer with the
whole class.
SS says, /i/ /i/ insect.
Repeat the procedure.
At the end, clap for SS good work.

Initial i

Activity 3: Sound Zone (5mins)


Set up 2 zones: smiley face (the key sound) and sad face (not
the key sound) zones in the classroom (before the class).
Instruct SS how to play the game.
1. Invite SS to stand and gather in the middle of the classroom/in
front of the board.
2. Show the e-lesson page Initial Short Vowel i (next page).
3. Click on a picture randomly and have SS listen.
4. Have SS identify the beginning sound of that picture.
5. After Ts signal, SS quickly go to the correct zone.
6. The student who goes to the correct zone first has to call out
the sound and word loudly to earn pts.
SS says, /i/ /i/ insect.
7. Check and drill the answer with the whole class.
Repeat the procedure for the rest of the words.
At the end, have SS sit down nicely and clap for SS good work.

Work on SB pgs.96, 97.


Use SB to give instructions. Demonstrate each type of exercise.
After clear instruction, allow SS to open their books.
SS do the exercises by themselves (set clear time limit -2min).
Check the answers together. Drill the sound and word each time.
Clean up and organize the desks. Clap for SS good work.
SS will review the key sound and the keywords.
Review the days letter(s) and the sound (e.g.: i /i/ /i/ 3 times
with speed).
Flip the FCs quickly to review the words that have the /i/ sound as
the initial sound do choral drilling.
T says, SS repeat, /i/ /i/insect.
Do the Phonics song/chant.
At the end, have SS sit very nicely.
Avoid using physical games towards the end of the class. It is
important to settle down the SS before they step out of the classroom
for safety reasons.
Count the pts to choose the winner team.
Choose the best student of the day to be the Captain.

-Teachers should always model first/demonstrate for activities.
