ISP CAUTIONS PUBLIC ON WINTER WEATHER

DRIVING
Collinsville, IL With the National Weather Service predicting a widespread of freezing
rain, for the metro east area this evening, the Illinois State Police want to encourage
motorists to prepare now.
Illinois State Police District Eleven Interim Commander Timothy Tyler said, We would
like to encourage people to be aware of potentially hazardous roadway conditions
approaching our area this evening. As we enter winter, motorists should pay special
attention to surface conditions. We recommend they leave early, allow more following
distance between vehicles and slow down as conditions can change very quickly.
Motorists are also encouraged to plan ahead, especially with the freezing temperatures
expected. They should make sure to have extra coats, blankets, gloves and hats, and
high energy food and water. Their vehicles should also be prepared for winter by
traveling with at least a half a tank of fuel, check antifreeze levels, washer fluid levels
and ensure an overall roadworthiness. Let others know travel plans as well, and keep
a charger for cellphones on hand.
