Typhoon Glenda: News updates

As of the moment, more than 30 places in the country are under the public storm warning signal due to
the typhoon Glenda.

Yes, this is Grace Hanae Batistil, live at Legazpi, Albay. As you can see, typhoon Glenda has now struck
this city with rattling winds traveling at 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 160 kilometers per
hour. Right now, thousands of people are now hunkered at evacuation centers across the Bicol region.
Typhoon Glenda made its landfall in Albay at past 5pm yesterday. Before that, thousands of families
have evacuated to safety, especially those in low-lying areas.

The Office of Civil Defense-Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council reported that as
of today, 66,589 families were evacuated all over Bicol region. In Albay, 62,951 families have already
evacuated, 110 in Catanduanes, 1,564 in Camarines Sur, 2,036 in Sorsogon, 17 in Masbate and 181 in
Camarines Norte.

Meanwhile, electricity is down in numerous parts of Albay and Camarines provinces, and was
completely cut-off in Catanduanes and Sorsogon.
As of the moment, 33,065 families or 145,627 persons were affected in Regions 5 and 7. Concurrently, a
total of 4,649 passengers, 34 vessels, 617 rolling cargoes, 32 motor banca’s, and 5 vessels taking shelter
were stranded at various ports.

Second, make a plan and be prepared. Make emergency evacuation plans, prepare supplies such as
canned goods, clothes and survival tools, and prepare your emergency health kit.

Lastly, evaluate your home and assess risks. Check its structural safety and shut off waterlines, gas and
electricity before the disaster strikes.

Keeping in mind these three basic preparedness tips will help you be ready for the disasters that may
come.
