PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES SCRIPT

Jasmine: Now that we know a thing or two about tropical cyclone, how should we get ready for a
cyclone? Let’s watch this video.

(Video script)
Jasmine: When you live in a region impacted by tropical cyclones, you must prepare for their
destructive nature to protect your past, present, and future.
Jasmine: Meteorologists still find it hard to predict hurricanes precisely. The good news is that, since
they move slowly, you’ll definitely know a hurricane is approaching.
Jasmine: A typhoon is on its way and the media is stressing you to prepare for the impending storm.
What are you to do?
Jasmine: Here are some safety measures to be practiced before, during, and after a cyclone.
……….………..…………………….
Jasmine: Before a cyclone, first I recommend you to be informed!
Keep your radio or television on and listen for the latest weather warning and advisories. When a
typhoon approaches, listen for flood watches and warnings. (Rhea)
Jasmine: Create a family emergency plan!
Make sure your family has an emergency evacuation route. Discuss a meeting place so that you
won't panic if you get separated from each other. (Chelsea)
Jasmine: Protect your keepsakes!
Gather your family records, photos, essential documents, important pieces of your past and place
them in a location guaranteed protected from the storm, such as a safe. Or in case you evacuate put
them in your bags. (Birky)
Jasmine: Be sure to prepare a disaster supply and care kit. Include first-aid kit, and in case there will
be power outages prepare flashlights, batteries for flashlights and radio, candles and kerosene
lamps, or other lighting devices. (Kerlyn)
Jasmine: And most importantly, prepare and emergency bag for each family members. Pack a bag
with clothes, batteries, flashlight, water, canned goods and other necessities, in case you have to
evacuate. (Chrysbhey)
……….………..…………………….
Jasmine: During a cyclone, do not panic! Instead, stay calm and be alert. Always monitor news about
the typhoon, whether on television or radio. If the power is cut, keep a radio on and tuned in to
news.
(Rhea)
Jasmine: Stay indoors! Avoid driving or going outdoors during a storm. Flooding and damaging
winds can make traveling very dangerous.
Jasmine: Follow instructions from public safety officials. If advised to evacuate, do so immediately.
Move family, pets and valuable to a safe place; turn off gas valves, electricity and water, when safe to
do so. (Chelsea)
……….………..…………………….
Jasmine: After a cyclone, continue to monitor the media for emergency information. (Birky)
Jasmine: Check for damages. Avoid touching electrical wires and have a knowledgeable person
inspect electrical wiring before using electrical appliances. It is usually advisable not to use
appliances immediately after a typhoon especially if your house got flooded.
Jasmine: Stay away from flood waters! They carry water-borne diseases. Many people who have
survived a storm but braved flood waters actually have been hospitalized, not just for injuries or
diarrhea, but also to the deadly leptospirosis.
Jasmine: Boil water before drinking it to avoid getting sick. The storm could impact the public water
system, meaning there could be contaminants in the water that could make it unsafe to drink.
(Kerlyn)
Jasmine: Clean and throw out spoiled food and disinfect any objects that could’ve been in contact
with sewage, bacteria, or spilled chemicals. Basically, you’ve got lots of cleaning up to do, but at least
you’re safe and sound!
Jasmine: And lastly, check on you family, friends, and neighbors. Be there when they need a hand!
(Chrysbhey)

……….………..…………………….
Jasmine: Cyclones are not to be messed with and can be extremely destructive! Remember to be
prepared, and be safe! Byeeeeeeeee
