CHARLIE FLAVIN PLAYS A BLINDER!

Twelve months ago I became a member of Youghal
Golf Club. We have two
tournaments every week
during the summer; one on
Tuesday and one on Thursday. Liam Burns is in
charge of the Junior Tournaments. On the 3rd of
July gone, the Junior Munster Masters came to
Youghal Golf Club. The
weather on the day was
very sunny and there was
very little wind. At the end
of my fifteen holes I hit
seventy shots and came
second. On the second last
week of the summer holidays the final day of the
Irish Junior Masters was
in Fernhill Golf Club which
is just outside Carrigaline.

My caddy was my dad. The

weather on the day was
very bad; there was a lot
of rain and wind. There
was also some thunder towards the end of my
round. The participants
were from all across Ireland and anyone in the
eleven and under category
had to have an adult caddy.
On the way up to the first
tee box I was very nervous
but as soon as I hit my
first couple of shots I
calmed down a bit. It also
improved my game to have
my dad going around with
me giving me advice and
help. We played fifteen
holes again, the same as
the Munster Masters.
With the weather I didnt

play as well as the previous

tournament and I hit seventy two shots. When we
came in from our round we
got a chance to dry off
and get something to eat
in the bar. We had to wait
about thirty minutes for
the results to be announced and it was then I
found out that I came
first in my category. Overall I think the day was
great and it was an exciting experience. Im looking
forward to next year already.

A FEW WORDS FROM MR. ONEILL

Dear Parents/Guardians and

everyone involved with Bunscoil
Mhuire,
Though it has turned warmer
and wetter the dark evenings
tell us that Christmas is around
the corner. The crisp, clear
weather in November made
that usually drab and dreary
month fly! The junior end of
the school is on its way up to
the Christmas Panto in Cork as
I write these few words. It is
the turn of the senior end tomorrow. Oh, yes it is!!!
The Senior Infants will be performing the Nativity Play very
soon and everyone here is really
looking forward to it. It really
is a lovely way to start the
count down to the big day. We
have Confessions on Friday and
a sincere thank you to all the
boys and girls who behaved so
well when we attended the
Church of Our Lady of Lourdes
and The Parish Church last
Thursday, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Well done to the choir who
sang beautifully at the switch-

ing on of the Christmas Lights

here in Youghal. Many thanks to
Ms. Mulcahy and all the teachers, that were involved with the
choir. They will also be singing
in Tesco next Tuesday, 20th of
December.
The Christmas cards the children designed have been delivered and they look very nice.
Many thanks to the Parents
Association for organising this
fundraiser and for all their help
this year. Many thanks to the
Board of Management also and
especially for the iPads which
are on their way to the school
right now.
We had a number of great assemblies in the school since
September and we are looking
forward to the sixth class assembly next Wednesday.
Congratulations to all the excellent sportspeople we have in
the school and who have participated in many sports such as
golf, snooker, soccer, football,
hurling, camige, athletics, to
name a few. They have also won
many medals and trophies since

September.
Many thanks to Halina, Tim and
Tom for all the work they do
around the school and to Carmel who keeps everything ticking over from the office.
A big thank you to all the
teachers and the SNAs who
work so tirelessly to help the
boys and girls in the school.
Best wishes to Ms. Kearney, as
she gets ready to go on her
Maternity leave, this Christmas. We hope she has a safe
and a healthy pregnancy.
Please remember to be safe
and to be seen this Christmas
break. Wear high visibility
jackets when you are outside
and make sure you have lights
on your bicycles, as the evenings are very dark.
On behalf of all of the staff
here at Bunscoil Mhuire I would
like to wish everyone a safe and
a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year for 2017!
See you all again, please God on
Monday, 9th January!
Le gach dea-ghu,
Eoghan Rua Nill, Promhoide.

OUR RETREAT TO BLACKROCK

On the 16th of November

Sixth Class went on a Confirmation Retreat in Blackrock. We
set off at ten minutes to nine.
When we arrived we met two
nice men. Their names were Pa
and Severin. They helped us to
have a lot of fun. After a couple of games we were all split

up into groups. While we were

in our groups we talked about
what makes us special. Then we
went and had our lunch. When
we returned after lunch we did
some drawing and we talked
about our Confirmation names.
Some time later we held a prayer service. After one last game

we waved goodbye to Pa and

OUR SCHOOL CHOIR GET CHRISTMAS STARTED!

On the 26th of November the Bunscoil
Mhuire choir sang at the turning on of the
Christmas lights. Ms. Mulcahy was the
conductor of the choir. She taught us all
Christmas songs like Rudolf the Red Nose
Reindeer, Santa Claus is coming to Town,
Silent Night, Rocking around the Christmas tree and much, much more. We were
practicing for about three weeks. The
choir were ready to sing on Saturday. We
all got to wear Christmas hats. The choir
met in the Market Square. There was a
big crowd and there was Santas Cottage,

face painting and Cry FM were also there.

The musicians were great. There were
four guitarists Ms. Hannon, Ms. Nagle,
Breda and Trish and Pat played the piano
for us. We sang for about a half an hour.
When we were singing some people sang
along with us. When they turned on the
lights they counted down from twenty. It
was very exciting. When the lights turned
on it was magical. The lights were beautiful. The colours of the lights were blue
and white and they went all through the
town. Now if its dark you will always see

the lights on. Sometimes the lights make

the town look prettier when theyre on.
People are starting to put up their decorations and now it really feels like Christmas.

BASKETBALL TRAINING WITH STEVE!

We started basketball training a
few weeks ago. Our coachs name is
Steve. He is very good at basketball. He taught us loads of skills
like, bouncing the ball and getting
around the defender. It has been
really fun training with Steve. We
played matches where we couldnt
dribble the ball. Steve was not there
one day so we had a trainer called
Doug. Doug gave us the opportunity

to try some shooting. We think that

everyone really enjoyed playing basketball with Steve and Doug. We
saw everybody playing really well.
We all want to say a huge thank you
to Steve and Doug for teaching us

ROAD SAFETY TALK BY OLIWIA MAZUREK

A man named Cathal from the
Road Safety Authority visited
all the classes in the school. He
talked about how to be safe on
or near the road. He showed us
a presentation on the white
board. He showed us pictures
and videos. He showed us a video and asked us how many times

the white team passes the ball

to each other. The answer was
twelve. Then he asked us had
we seen the moon walking bear?
Nobody saw the bear in the
video because we were distracted by the passes. I
learned that you should wear
high vis gear at night and day. I

also learned that it is very important that the children from

Bunscoil use the zebra crossing
to cross the

running. Everyone raced brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed

the day. The U11 girls team
came sixth in Ireland and first
in Munster! Sorcha came ninth
in Ireland overall and received

for others as well in case
they didnt get any as some
people were out sick! I love
when Santa comes to my

and I might drive my mam

grandad bought me bongos
for my birthday already. He
said never to bring them to
his house so I did! He said
they were coming back to
haunt him! The Elf on the

took my bongos and put them
