Portable fire pumps - the plan

We currently have 4 petrol models

LW500 LW800 LW1300 LW2300

The model number indicates the flow in l/min, normally at 7 bar

We currently have 3 diesel models

LD400

LD600

LD1800

We plan to:

Introduce a Mk 2 version of the LW500 - better frame and specification

Introduce a water cooled LW1100 - 3 cyl Briggs & Stratton engines

Introduce an LD1100 water cooled diesel - 3 cyl Briggs & Stratton engines

Introduce a 35hp Briggs & Stratton V twin air cooled LWA1200

Introduce a small floating pump - the FL1000

Longer term we hope to introduce:

A small forestry pump (high pressure, low volume, light weight)

Air or water cooled?

Air cooling is simpler, lighter and
cheaper
Modern materials mean air cooling
is reliable, even in hot climates

Water cooling is essential for larger

multi-cylinder engines
With water cooling a heat exchanger
is essential

Priming systems
The Angus LW1300, 1800 and 2300
use a unique exhaust venturi system
All other Angus pumps use a simple
exhaust priming system

Manual or electric start?

It is not possible to hand start large engines
over approximately 45 hp (60 kW)
To hand start an engine there must be a way
to generate a spark at low speeds
Some engines will not hand start if a battery
is not present - which defeats the object of
hand starting!

Pump casing pressure

All Angus pump bodies are
designed to take at least 20 bar
All Angus pump bodies and
impellers are made from light weight
aluminium coated with a, marine
grade, hard anodising skin to protect
them against corrosion and erosion
For sea water or other corrosive
fluids all Angus pumps can be
supplied with gunmetal pump
casings and impellers

Expected to comply
In Europe engines for non-road portable machinery are governed by European Directive 97/68/EC, modified by
2002/88/EC. In the USA two standards apply, namely CARB (California Air Resources Board) and EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency).

While other regulations may apply in other parts of the world, the regulations in most countries are based on one or
more of the above.
All petrol Angus portable fire pumps up to 30 kW (40 hp), plus the Angus LW2300 pump, meet both the CARB, EPA
and EEC standards for non-road portable machinery.
Diesel engines under 17 kW are not regulated at present
