To Whom It May Concern:

Joseph Bruen was a student teacher in my 7th grade US Studies class from October 31
through December 22, 2016. During this time I had ample opportunities to observe him in
whole group instruction as well as one to one interaction.
Mr. Bruen demonstrated several characteristics which contribute to his becoming an excellent
teacher. He presented a professional attitude toward his teaching and the teaching profession.
In the classroom, Mr. Bruen was always very supportive and positive with all students. His
curriculum competency, ease of instruction, and communication skills all contributed to an
encouraging and engaging classroom atmosphere. Specifically, his content knowledge and
ability to teach and respond to student questions were advanced for a teacher in the infancy of
his career. In addition, Josephs development of new curriculum using current technology
suits the needs of the 21st century learner. Josephs ability to synthesize vast amounts of
historical content and connect that content with the present made it relevant and interesting for
his students. Outside of the classroom, Joseph attended team meetings, teacher/student/parent
conferences, and building-wide staff development workshops.
Mr. Bruen classroom discipline was patient and instructive. He was able to redirect off task
behavior without attacking the student. More importantly, Mr. Bruen rarely appeared
flustered or nervous, with a classroom presence that was calm and confident. His ability to
adapt to the ever changing classroom environment, and adjust to unexpected events were
handled smoothly. He took his job seriously, but not himself, and always wore a smile; which
connected him to his students.
In my opinion Mr. Bruen has the potential to be an outstanding teacher. He is direct,
organized, polite and open to advice and guidance. His subject knowledge, ease of instruction
and ability to adjust to unexpected situations suit todays learners.
Sincerely,

Mr. Daniel Perzel, M.A. Ed.
