Brittle & Ductile Failure

In case of brittle failure, chevron marks are formed which point towards
the origin

In case of fatigue failure, the fatigue zone is typically much smoother than the
instantaneous zone, which is usually brittle and crystalline in appearance. Progression
marks are an indication that the growth rate changed as the crack grew across the shaft
and dont appear on many failure faces.
