What was it like to build a log cabin,

grind your own cornmeal to make
johnnycakes, set a trap line or build a
bridge? These and other activities
were regular occurrences in pioneer
life. Through participation in the
Pioneer Heritage program, the
pioneers life in Indiana becomes a
hands-on reality for these students.

Camp Tecumseh

History

In 1922 the YMCA of

Indiana wanted to establish
camps in Indiana. Most
YMCAS in the state were
too small, to host a region
camp on their own, with
help from locals a new
camp near the Tippecanoe
River was purchased. Camp
Tecumseh began serving
the youth of Indiana in
1924. The first year they
hosted 150 students.

Educational
Camp Tecumseh is
educational because you
learn how to cook, use old
tools, about the wildlife,
and how pioneer live.

More
The black hole and nature
center was my favorite
thing to do. I learned about
the schoolhouse in the past
and the teacher were strict.
I went to the pathfinder
journal it was fun and we
learned a lot of thing.
