Thinking Sheet #5
In the stance of libertarian, I believe that ordinary citizens have the
responsibility to mitigate the effects of climate change only if they
want to. The people have to decide for themselves if they want to
prevent climate change, no one can do it for them. For Kants stance,
ordinary citizens should be trying to change and prevent climate
change only if everyone does it. If it is considered moral on everyones
standards, then everyone should be doing it to be ethically good.
In my personal opinion, I believe that with the United States resources,
we should have more of a responsibility to prevent climate change
than developing countries that dont have has much ability to make a
difference. A libertarian would say that everyone has the different
amounts of responsibility to make environmental changes depending
on how much they want to do. Kants method would be that people
with more resources should have a greater responsibility than lesser
countries to mitigate climate change.
