Tezpur University was established in 1994 by an Act of Parliament. It is located at Napaam 15 kilometres from Tezpur, the
headquartersofSonitpurdistrictofAssam.Tezpurislinkedbyroad,railandairwiththerestofthecountry.
Tezpur University is a unitary type of university committed to academic excellence having postgraduate and doctoral
programmesrunningindiverseareassuchasScienceandTechnology,Energy,Environment&NaturalResources,Humanities,
Social Sciences and Management Sciences. The University now embarking upon the arena of Engineering education at the
UndergraduatelevelwiththestartingofB.Techprogrammefromthesession200607.Inthefirstphasetheprogrammeisbeing
started in the disciplines of Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mechanical

TheUniversityhasaCentralLibrarywitharapidlyincreasingcollectionofbooksandjournals.Mostofthenecessarybooksare
available. Besides the Central Library, the Departments also have their Departmental Libraries. The catalogue of books and
journals is available for users for online access on the campus network. The students and scholars also get access to a large
numberofonlineelectronicofjournalsoverthenetwork.BookBankfacilityisavailabletostudentsfromeconomicallyweaker
background.
Computingfacilities
TheUniversityhaselaboratecomputingfacilitiesaccessibletothestudents.ThereisamodernstateoftheartCentralComputer
CentreforusebythestudentsandscholarsofTezpurUniversityinadditiontothedepartmentalcomputerlaboratories.Apart
from a large number of PCs and several servers, all connected to the campus LAN, the Centre also has a 4processor SGI
ALTIX350computeserver.Therearealsohighqualitylaserprinters,scanners,multimediaaccessories,etc.Varioussoftware
systemsareavailablethatruninenvironmentssuchasUNIX/LINUX,MSWindows2000/NT/XP,andNovellIntraNetware.
InadditiontotheCentralComputerCentretheDepartmentofComputerScience,DepartmentofElectronicsandseveralother
departmentshavewellequippedcomputerlaboratoriesforusebythestudentsandscholars.
ThecampusLANisconnectedtotheInternetthroughits512kbpsSCPCVSATstationoftheERNET.Stepsareontoenhance
thesefacilitiesbyaddingmorePCs,serversandperipherals,extendingthenetworktothehostelsandbyincreasingtheInternet
bandwidth.

ThereisaCentralWorkshopequippedwithtoolsandmachineriesnecessaryforengineeringeducationandtraining.
HostelAccommodation
TheUniversityhasseparatehostelsforboysandgirlsadequatetoaccommodateallstudentsandscholars.

A limited number of scholarships are offered to Tezpur University students by various Government/semiGovernment

EligibilityRequirementsforB.TechAdmission
The qualification for admission to the programme shall be 10+2 pass with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST) in Physics,
ChemistryandMathematicsandpassmarksinEnglishandqualifyinginAIEEE.50%oftheseatsarereservedforcandidates
from the North Eastern States and the remaining 50% seats shall be kept open. The merit lists for admission under all the
categories,includingthe50%seatsreservedfortheNEstates,shallbepreparedbasedonscoresofAIEEEheldnotearlierthan
2005.

(B) Seats are reserved for SC/ST and Physically Challanged (PC) candidates as per central government rules. However,
