Project 1: Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED)
SMED is a system for dramatically reducing the time it takes to complete equipment changeovers
To reduce die change over time of Schuler Press under 10 min by reducing losses
Methodology
Elimination of setup errors and elimination of trial runs reduces defect rates
Separate internal from external setup operations and convert internal to external setup
Divide change sequence activity among multiple operators
Deliverables
Reduced Die Change over time to 8 min (57%)
Project 2: Die Spare Management
Methodology
Die Spare Management for Dies of Mahindra XUV 5OO, KUV 1OO and TUV 3OO Dies
ABC and Vital-Essential-Desirable VED analysis was conducted to identify the categories of items needing
stringent management control.
Prepared database of spares of available and required items from Bill of Materials by reading Drawings
Implemented 5S in spare storage area
Deliverables
Reduced item retrieving time to 1:32 min
