From the life of Christ expressed in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark,
Luke and John to the final victory over Satan written about in Revelation by
John, the New Testament is the very blueprint for Christians as we live our
lives, day to day, in preparation for one day being with the Lord in Heaven.
It is only by the New Testament that a person can even know how to
become a child of God and then what he should do in order to maintain his
inheritance through faithful, diligent service. It is only by reading the New
Testament that we, the Lord's church, can understand our purpose, both as
individual members and a collective body. It is only by reading the New
Testament that we even understand the complete purpose of the Messiah
on this earth. It is my hope that you will join with me as together, we
dedicate this year to reading the New Testament.
The layout for reading the New Testament this year might be a bit different
than typical methods. If you take 5 days a week and multiply that by 52
weeks, you will come up with the number 260. Incidentally, that is how
many chapters are in the New Testament. We will read one chapter per
day, five days a week. Each quarter, we will begin with one of the Gospel
accounts of the life of Jesus and from there we will read the other books in
a random order.
It is my hope that you will participate in this plan and that as a congregation
we may grow together in our knowledge and understanding of the Word of
God. It is likely that at some point you will fall behind. If this happens
DON'T SWEAT IT! Just pick up with where the plan currently is and get
back on track.
I look forward to this year and I am eager to see the ways we are blessed
by God as we read together the books of the Bible that are used the most
by His children. Good luck, pray hard and please enjoy this year as we
read the New Testament together.
