A Non-Social Conflict World
Do people in World State not have any social conflict? Brave New World was written by
Aldous Huxley. It is the future world that happens in 2540. Many things are changed from the
old world such as taking drugs all the time and people are born from tubes. The story is about the
new world (World State) which is different from the old world. The new world is controlled by
ten world controllers and everyone has their own classes which are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta,
and Epsilon. Everyone belongs to everyone else. Huxley introduces soma, zippers and hatchery
to represent avoiding social conflict.

Soma is an important factor that makes the society peaceful by making people happy. It
is a drug that people in controlled world take all the time as a vitamin. But, they take a proper
amount of soma, so it does not affect them to die. People need to take soma because it makes
them always feel happy and joyful, no more tear and no thoughts about something bad. Narrator
describe about soma: By this time the soma had begun to work. Eyes shone, cheeks were
ushed, and the inner light of universal benevolence broke out on every face in happy, friendly
smiles (Huxley, P.70). When people take soma, they feel happy even though they are not
because it is a fake happiness. But, it does not create a social conflict due to their happiness and
satisfaction with things they have. Soma influences the peoples lives because it makes people
feel relax and also zippers because it shows an attitude of sex of their people.

Wearing a zipper cloth makes people easy to have sex with anyone by does not have

obligation. Zippers are important things on clothing of the controlled world people, so all
clothing in Controlled World has zippers on it because the purpose of zippers on clothing is easy
to access or have sex. Lenina repeats while children playing a game about fighting with a naked
body to Fanny: Yes, everyone belongs to everyone else [] (Huxley, P.37). In the Controlled
World, everyone belong to everyone because this world wants to cut out a relation that bond up
with someone especially relationship of family. Thats why people born from tubes instead of
parents.
Hatchery creates, separates and sends them to the conditioning center to teach them to be
happy with their classes. Hatchery is a factory of producing human by hatched. It means
everybody born from the tube that take an ovary, remove and fertilize the eggs, force the eggs to
bud up to ninety-six times, and subsequently grow the embryos in bottles. So, they do not born in
natural way which from mother. And everyone was assigned a job by the director assigns a job.
Beta explains about each classes: [] Alpha work much harder than we do, because theyre so
frightfully clever. Im really awfully glad Im a Beta, because I dont work so hard. And then we
are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid [] (Huxley, P.22). Everyone
are happy in their class because they took controlled by loud-speaker to make them believe
that their classes are the best.

Soma, zippers, and hatchery are the symbolism that represent peaceful of society. First,
soma makes people always feel happy and satisfaction with things they have. Second, zippers on
their clothing are important to them because it is easy to have sex to make them feel equality.
The last, hatchery separates children in their classes since they are born and teach them by loudspeaker to give them pleasure in their classes. Therefore, three things can make this world to be
peaceful because everyone is happy with things that they have.
