White pine -> Only wood with visible raisin canal (red line on large end). Also
very light.
Ring-porous => abrupt transition EW/LW
TO LOOK IN CUT-OUT PART
EW = Light
LW = Dark
HARD WOODS:
Red Oak -> Open pores. Ring-porous, color lighter, has obvious ray flex
White Oak -> Close pores. Ring-porous, darker, has obvious ray flex
Maple -> Light, distinct rays and transitions. Pores very small (almost none).
Diffuse porous.
White ash -> Darker-ish, distinct fine white rays (on cut-out part). Ringporous (can see most pores in the early wood)
Black Walnut -> Darkest wood, semi-ring porous (pores size gradients)
Aspen -> Rings not very distinct (gradual), very light color, looks very
uniform, no standout features, diffuse porous
Beech -> has obvious ray flex and rays. Bit lighter than the oaks. Diffuse
porous
Black Cherry -> Deep brown, not darkest. Pretty distinct white ray. Cant
see pores.
Softwood => presence of resin canals, early/late wood transitions
