FULL DAY EXPERIENCE: Having spent one full day at your internship site, reflect on the following

questions to get you thinking. Respond to these questions, and add other thoughts and
observations as you see fit.
Date of Experience:
1. In what ways was the full day experience different from your typical time spent at your
internship site? Be specific; say more than longer.
My full day experience was a lot of fun. I got to see how Mrs. Baumgartner teaches math
to her students. I got to experience how wild they are after recess just like I was in third grade. I
got to see her different techniques of how she quiets her class when other things no longer
work. I also got to see how the students do their daily 5 activities.
2. Were there repeated routines and responsibilities throughout the course of your day, or
did being there for a full day afford you the opportunity to perform different tasks, see
another side of the job, etc? Explain and give examples.
Being there for a full day was definitely beneficial for me. I got to teach the students how
to do math, and helped teach them the difference between complete sentences and sentence
fragments. Some things that were repeated were their morning routines, hang up their coat in
the hall, walk into the classroom vote for their lunch, take their chair down, and grab breakfast
and bellwork.
3. Did this full day experience confirm your feelings about your desire to pursue this career
moving forward or explore another at the collegiate level? In what way?
My mind was made up before I had my full day experience. It did help me get a better
feel for what I would be doing everyday and how things would be done. I also liked being around
the kids all day and seeing how their attitudes change throughout the day.
4. Were your interactions with your mentor and/or co-workers different throughout the
course of one whole day than you have experienced before? Explain.
Yes, interactions with my mentor were different throughout the day. The conversations
and interactions were different because we were able to talk more about my future and where I
plan to attend college. We were also able to talk about what else all happens in a work day for a
teacher. She explained some situations she has had to deal with without using anyones name.
She also explained some things that they do on early release days and the teacher inservice
days.
