HOW TO MEASURE THE PROGRESS OF ENGINEERING WORKS FROM P6?

List down your deliverable as activities under discipline/ Index (as WBS)...
now provide the planned duration and man hours to each deliverable ... if you
don't have cost, apply 1 for each hour... complete your schedule and set your
baseline... update your schedule to get the performance % complete through
p6. I hope this will help

How do the engineers d it ? what do they use ? they probably use manhours.
do not make it a non labor its still labor just a different type of resource.
Labor is usually measured in manhours. You can create a labor resource for
engineers and make the default units /time equal to 8. Then it will take 8 time
your duraiton to give you your manhours. So for a 5 day activity 8 hours/day
times 5 days = 40 hours.
You can then change the units or mahours based on what the engineers tell
you. Another way do to do this is to add steps to the activity and make the
deliverables for that the steps required to complete the activity as you
progress the steps the activity is automatically progressed.

Also how did you come up with the engineering durations there has to be
some basis for this. So whatever you used for this basis used the same to
measure against unless the basis was thin air then go with manhours or step
deliverables.
