Opening Speech
Thank you honorable chair and fellow delegates, over the past couple of years the world's most
rapidly growing dilemma has been the refugee crisis and the poor medical care they receive. As
all of you may know the treatment for diseases of the mind has fallen far behind those of
infectious diseases. Greece is currently undergoing an economic crisis and can not support
refugees alone. Our main issue is low funding for the Syrian refugees. The increasing numbers of
people needing medical help is straining existing health services in various countries. Common
diseases include PTSD, major depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. UNHCR has made a global
emergency response capaciter. Its purpose is to deploy helping civilians and material aid at very
short notice. I believe that the first thing that should be acknowledged is to come up with
solutions to a long term mental effect rather than a short term. Greece will not be the only
country that is affected by the medical care of refugees. With more than 1.4 million refugees
around the world with health problems. Countries will have to deport refugees because of their
illnesses which will cost the country's wealth. It can cost up to $36 thousand to deport one
refugee.
Thank you
