Understand the fundamentals of collision theory.

Able to define specific terms like collision frequency, collision energy, catalysts,
activation energy etc
Able to explain why factors like conc., temperature, pressure etc. can
reaction.

rate of

Knows how to define specific terms like reaction rate, rate constant, order of
kinetics, half-life, rate determining steps etc.
Able to determine order of kinetics with respect to the reactants, rate constant
(with unit derivation) by using initial rate-reactant concentration comparison
method (check lecture 11, slide 28-37 and related tutorial questions).
Have memorized 3 integrated rate equations (0, 1st and 2nd order) and how to use
integrated equation plot to determine the order of kinetics with respect to the
reactant.
Have memorize half-life equation for 1st order kinetics (only 1st order! T1/2 = ln 2 /
k) and learn how to use it in calculation.
Knows that rate determining step (slowest) is the only elementary step in a
mechanism which can be used to determine the rate law. (advance technique will
not be covered)
Electrochemistry
Knows how to differentiate reducing reaction and oxidation reaction.
Able to calculate O.N. in a redox reaction.
Able to balance a redox reaction by using half-equation method.

which is cathode, electron flows, calculate E0cell etc.
Acid-base equilibria
Knows how to define specific terms like acid, base, pH, salt, buffer etc.
Able to explain whether an acid/base is strong or weak.

Able to write and use acid dissociation expression to calculate the pH of acid or
base solution.

acid-strong base titration.
Understand features and calculations involving pH indicators (refer to tutorial 6,
question 4)
