Tree Planting
Last July 15, 2016, BatStateU Community organized a University wide tree planting
which was participated by different departments including the Mechanical Engineering Student
Society. It was held in San Pedro, Batangas City. The event started by a prayer and an opening
message made by the University President, Dr. Tirso Ronquillo. After having the different talks
of barangay officials and other members, the tree planting started. The groups were divided into
three. Different groups went to different places to plant the trees. The tree planting was done to
help the community and the environment. It also aims to let the students be aware of the issues
regarding the environment. This will be a great point of promoting green environment and save
the earth from global warming issues. It was a successful event that ended at 10:00 AM.
Tutorials
Tutorials for 3rd year and 4th year students were an activity to make it easy for the students
to adjust to their new environment. This activity was done every before the major examinations.
This semester, it happened on September 10, 2016, Saturday, from 8:00 in the morning until
12:00 in the afternoon. The students who help the juniors are the ME Quizzers namely Nikka P.
Ilagan, Adrian D. Bautista and Anna Rizza Ebreo. Other Fifth year students also helped for the
successful tutorial namely Jackielyn Araullo, Ailynn Vel Rayos, Raymark Manongsong, Marck
Aala and Alfred Justin Montoya.
The subjects taught were thermodynamics I, Statics, Differential Equation and Machine
Elements. Each third year section was given 1 hour for each subject to be taught. The quizzers
did a rotation of sections to maximize the time. The lessons taught depend upon the scope of
their exam.
The MESS Officers received positive feedbacks from all of the third year and fourth year
students. They knew how important this tutorial is for them since their subjects on general
engineering were not all inclined on the subjects at mechanical engineering.
ME Clean Up
The Mechanical Engineering Students Society organized a department clean up last
September 10, 2016. This is to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability. It intended
to solidify the students commitment to the protection of the campus environment.
The said activity was attended by all the year levels of ME Department. The assembly
started at 1:00 PM wherein the assigned area for each year level was distributed.
Despite of the hot weather condition, the ME students was divided into several groups,
eager to begin. As assigned, some fifth year and third year students headed to the ME
Laboratories. Others are assigned in the 2 nd floor rooms of ME department. Although the
department does not have enough cleaning materials, it did not hinder the willingness of every
student to help. Some of them made use of sticks as brooms, papers and even their bare hands as
dustpans.
The ME students were supervised by Engr. Mary Joan Leacille R. Manalo. Enthusiastic
to make a difference and looking for ways to help care the environment, no job seemed difficult
for every student. Everyone works consistently towards its goal of becoming an environmentally
responsible community. It was good to see how much the department could accomplish with so
many people working together.
ME Choir Audition
To further promote the talent of every Mechanical Engineering students, MESS organized
an audition for its new choir members. The leaders of the choir, Ervin Jayk Arenas, Adrian Marlo
Adia and Alyssa Ramos leaded the said event and choose the most deserving people who can
contribute their singing ability to the ME department. At the end, 8 more members qualified and
chosen. Their first event would be the Mass Offering that is attributed for the Mechanical
Engineering Alumni who will take the Board Examination on October 28 and 29, 2016. The
mass would be on October 27, 2016 at the Second Floor Lobby in front of the Library.
UP Brainmesh 2016
UP Brainmesh 2016 was held at the UP Diliman last September 23, 2016. Different
participating schools from all over the country were present on the said event. There were three
rounds in the said event: Elimination round (written examination); semi-final round (oral-group);
final round (oral-group). The amphitheater was filled with participants. In relation to this, the
participants were very close to each other while taking the written examination. With this, the
host of the event set a seating arrangement which will avoid cheating from any of the
participating schools. The event started on time just like on what has been planned. Some
participating schools arrived late, and therefore, giving them shorter time to answer the
questionnaire. The first round lasted for 2 hours. The 2nd round was the semi-finals, and the third
round will be the final round which were both oral-type rounds.
Mass Offering
As part of the preparation for the upcoming Mechanical engineering Board Examination,
Mechanical Engineering Student Society offers a mass to give prayers to the ME alumni who
will take the board exam on October 28-29, 2016. The mass was held at the second floor lobby in
front of the Library. The homily talks about the role of every person in this world, why we do
things that we think do not contributes to our whole being. The Mechanical Engineering offers
their whole heart to support the upcoming events and challenges that the department needs to
overcome in the future. At the end, the whole ME community shouts 100 percent BatStateU in
Jesus Name, Amen as a sign of praying for its 100% passing rate.
Teachers Day
As part of the celebration of Teachers Day, the Mechanical Engineering Student Society
(MESS) joined the program held on CEAFA Amphitheater on October 5, 2016 to honor and give
appreciation to the entire teacher in Batangas State University Main Campus II-Alangilan.
There were games participated by the faculties like the pak ganern challenge and family
feud. There were gifts given to each attendees in between the part of the program. Intermission
numbers were also in appreciation to the modern heroes. In the last, he sub organization gave
gifts to the department instructors.
After the program, MESS provided a small party for the teachers of the department. They
prepared a small program and foods for the instructors.

Denso Seminar
In line with the celebration of the Foundtion anniversary of Batangas State University,
Mechanical Engineering students in partnership with Petroleum Engineering students
participated in the school fair held at Batangas State University Main campus 1. They put up a
booth where ME students placed their prepared wire maze for patrons to enjoy. Also, another
mini game was prepared ; the red string of fortune. Each game has designated prices and
prizes.
It happened for two days, November 16 and 17, 2016. The judging was done in the
afternoon of the first day and earlier the next day. The event was a successful one and really
enjoyed by many students and other instructors.
On Dec 4, 2016, the 1st JPSME Batangas Chapter Genral Assembly was held at LPU
Batangas, with the theme Versatility and Flexibility: Mechanoical Engineers, Substantiating
Diversity on Transcending Industry.
It was attended by ME students from Batangas State University, Lyceum of the
Philippines University Batangas, Golden Gate Colleges, University of Batangas and Westmead
International School. The PSME Officers are also present and some of them serves as the
speaker who shared their knowledge in Mechanical Engineering. They also discussed how
versatile Mechanical Engineers are.
This event is consisted of two parts, the first part is the Seminar which is scheduled in the
morning from 8:00 AM-12:00 nn and the second part which is the Quiz Bee and Machine Design
Contest were participated by the chosen representatives of their respective school.
The said event aims to educate Mechanical Engineering students from different
Universities and Colleges in Batangas that is part of the Junior Philippine Society of Mechanical
Engineers and showed how Mechanical Engineers work in different fields of expertise.
Outreach Program
This yuletide season, the Mechanical Engineering Students Society conducted an
outreach program so as to show their gratefulness and to extend all the blessings they have
received throughout the year. In cooperation with the CSWDO, the officers of MESS together
with the third-year students held the said activity last December 22, 2016. The City Social
Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) promotes care, protection and capability building of
children. At around 9:30 am, the Students gathered in the Day Care Center near CSWDO to
throw a Christmas party for 30 children supported by the abovementioned office. The party
started with a prayer, then some of the students prepared an intermission number for the kids.
The children enjoyed series of fun and exciting games together with their "ate's" and "kuya's"
who played and had fun with them. Special Gifts were awarded to the winners and consolation
prizes were given to those who did not won any game. The kids savored overflowing foods and
drinks from Jollibee. Before the student left, they gave each child a personal hygiene set to teach
the children how to keep themselves clean and to avoid getting sick. The kids bid their farewells
to their "ate's" and "kuya's" and showed their gratitude through hugs and kisses. The excess
foods were given to the needy asking for alms along the streets.

Competitiveness. This conference coincides with the 64th PSME Annual National Convention
also at SMX Convention with the theme: Challenges and Opportunities to Globalization and
Cross Bordering.
Batangas State University attended the said conference and participates in different
seminars and contest. The Mechanical Engineering Student Quizzers participates in the annual
Quiz Show as well as the ME Design Masters who participated in the Machine Design Contest.
The Conference was also consisted of shows and machines that shows a modernized innovation
today.
