In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the scene where Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to the black people church was left out of the movie. I was surprised when this was left out because I felt that this added to the theme of racism. You aint got no business bringin white chillun here---they got their church and we got ourn (Lee,158). This quote proves that racism is not just something the colored people feel but something everyone experienced. The scene where Mrs. Dubose dies was left out of the movie. I was surprised when that was left out because I felt that scene contributed to the theme of courage. ...Instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. Its when you know youre licked before you begin but you begin anyway (Lee, 149). This quote is from when Atticus was explaining to Jem why he was reading to Mrs. Dubose. This proves that courage has many forms.
