Electrical Installations Sectional Committee, ET 20
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 3) which is identical with IEC 62305-3 : 2010, Edition 2.0
Protection against lightning Part 3: Physical damage to structures and life hazard
issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) would be adopted by the
Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electrical Installations
Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.
This standard is a part of the following series, which are proposed to be adopted as Indain
Standards:
Protection against lightning Part 1
Protection against lightning Part 2
Protection against lightning Part 3
Protection against lightning Part 4

General principles
Risk management
Physical damage to structures and life hazard
Electrical and electronic systems within structures

This series, on adoption, would supersede IS 2309 : 1989 'Code of practice for the
protection of buildings and allied structures against lightning'. The text of IEC Standard
would be considered for approval as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard
without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in
Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a)

Wherever the words International Standard appear referring to this

standard, they should be read as Indian Standard.

b)

Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards
the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, references appear to certain International Standards for which
Indian Standards also exist. The corresponding Indian Standards, which are to be
substituted in their respective places, are listed below along with their degree of
equivalence for the editions indicated:
