Purpose:
This weeks activity is meant to be fun, engaging
and full of discovery. Through the use of recycled
water bottles and numerous amounts of eye
catching materials filled inside, I hope to create a
learning experience that benefits towards the
infants curriculum objectives.
The items were chosen based on the sounds they
made when shook, for being bright/captivating, and
for the way they moved through the liquid. These
aspects will aim to aid in further developing the
students physical, social and communicational
developmental domain skills.
Curriculum Objective:
The ELECT document states multiple goals within
the previously mentioned developmental domains
(physical, social, communication). Keeping these
aspects in mind, I will use my sensory engaging
activity to further advance their gross motor (5.1),
fine motor (5.2), and senses (5.3); as well as social
interest (1.1) and imitation (1.2); including nonverbal communication skills (3.1) and expressive
language skills (3.3).
* Below (learning experience), I include specific
excerpts/goals from the ELECT distinct to the
infants developmental timeline and tailored
accordingly to my activity planned.

through this
experience
Learning
Experience
What are you
planning in response
to your purpose?
- Label your
experience (e.g.
Painting with cars).
- What are your 3
objectives for this
experience? (i.e.
What interests are
you extending?
What strengths
and opportunities
for growth are you
enhancing/supporti
ng?)
Please Note: You
should refer to
appropriate
pedagogy to
support your
discussion around
strengths and
opportunities for
growth (e.g.
ELECT, How Does
Learning Happen,
Ontario FDK
Curriculum, etc).

Learning Experience: Sensory Water

Bottles
Objective 1. Physical Developmental Domain
a) Gross Motor (5.1)
o Reaching and holding object
o Releasing object from hands
o Walking while holding object
b) Fine Motor (5.2)
o Holding objects with palmar grasp and
pincer grasp
o Coordination through transferring object
between hands
c) The Senses (5.3)
o Visual exploration (tracking moving
objects with eyes)
o Auditory exploration (making sounds by
shaking object)
o Tactile exploration (touching/squeezing
object)
Objective 2. Social Developmental Domain
a) Social Interest (1.1)
o Observing peers
o Smiling at adult
o Examining objects with others (as a way
to form relationships)
b) Imitation (1.2)
o Imitating adult behavior
o Imitating peers

Describe the
experience:
- Who will be involved
in the experience?
- Where will the
experience take
place? (e.g.
Indoors or
outdoors? In the
dramatic centre,
the creative table,
etc).
- List the materials
and resources you
will use
- Describe the
implementation of
the experience,
with a step by step
description
- List and describe 2
teaching
strategies. How
will you use them?
Why have you
chosen these
strategies?

Objective 3. Communication Developmental

Domain
a) Non-verbal Communication (3.1)
o Referencing to ECE using eye contact
o Joint attention (looking at the same
object as the adult)
o Simple turn taking (back and forth vocal
play)
b) Expressive Language Skills (3.3)
o Vocalizing/babbling with a variety of sounds

Describe the Experience:

Who- All present infants, ECEs in room to watch
and/or facilitate
Where- Indoors, infant room, at the sensory table
Materials: Five recycled water bottles, water, oil,
food colouring, sparkles, ribbons, dry pasta
shells/rice, beads, sand, sea shells, paper clips,
buttons, string
Implementation:
1. Bring out activity in the afternoon
2. Receive childrens attention through vocal and
physical gestures
3. Place bottles one by one in sensory table bin
after briefly demonstrating each bottle
4. Allow infants to explore objects and take
interest independently
5. Continue to facilitate and engage with
students
Strategies:
1. Setting the stage- preparing the
environment by taking the activity out for
children to play with, setting bottles in an
attractive way to engage infants attention
ensuring all materials are visible - all children
should show interest on their own
2. Scaffolding- if child asks/signals for help the
adult may verbally or physically support his or
her learning through the process of assisted
performance, to then independent
functionality.

* I chose these strategies because I feel they work

best to suit the age group of my students (infants),
including the activity I plan to implement.
* These strategies will also aid in reaching many of
the objectives I hope to be enhanced by the
children.
