Sentence Combining

For variety, emphasis, and a number of other reasons, writers will choose to combine
sentences. Here are five good ways to do this.
Example: English is easy. We really love it.
1.

A comma and a coordinating conjunction:

English is easy, and we really love it.
English is easy, so we really love it.

2.

A semicolon:
English is easy; we really love it.

3.

A semicolon and a transition:

English is easy; therefore, we really love it.
English is easy; as a result, we really love it.
English is easy; in addition, we really love it.

4.

Subordination of one of the clauses:

Because English is easy, we really love it.
English is easy because we really love it.
English is easy if we really love it.
If we really love it, English is easy.

5.

Some other combining strategy:

English is so easy that we really love it.

We love English so much that it is really easy.
