5 pm,

I am hosting yet another party. This time is special as it seems that my party has
gotten a lot of attention from people from all over town. I watched the Rolls-Royce pull up to
my garden, with people pouring out of the back seat. While I was watching everybody come out
of their cars, I hoped to see my beautiful love. I havent seen her in quite some years and am
getting anxious for her arrival. I have received news that my new neighbor, Nick Caraway, is
coming to my party tonight. I have heard that he is related to my long last love, Daisy Buchanan.
She is married to some other man who is handsome, athletic, and rich. About an hour and a half
have past and I have not showed my face at my own party. This is not really different than any
other party I throw. I just like to fill my house with people that I might not know. I always have
the option to go downstairs and meet a new person. Who knows the person I meet, might
become my next lifelong friend? I decided to go downstairs to the garden to listen to the live
orchestra that I booked for my party. On my way downstairs, I pass many drunken strangers. I
passed one guy who was in my library just looking at books. He kept asking me if the books
where real. I just ignored him and kept walking. I arrived at the garden, and sat down to listen
the orchestra. I started to talk to my neighbor but I think he didnt know who I was. He told me,
This is an unusual party. I havent even seen the host. I live over there (page 47). He then
realized who I was and quickly apologized. After our short conversation, I realized I have made a
great friend that I will keep for a long time.

1917
I was deployed overseas during World War I. I met a lot of my friends during my time
fighting for my nation. I was deployed for a very long time, I was in the Seventh Infantry until
June nineteen-eighteen. (page 47) The war was long and arduous, but it wasnt that bad since
most of friends were also there, and besides I didnt have much family or friends over in the U.S.
However there was one person I missed, and that was my love, Daisy. I tried to stay in touch
with her, but she married some other man. I have heard that her husband had been one of the
most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven. His family were all enormously
wealthy- even in college his freedom for money was a matter for reproach. (page 6) This guy
seems like a very rude person, who is also very uptight. Since he is a very big and handsome
person, I would think that he might have an affair. Also that he is probably an abusive guy. When
I got back from overseas, I have not seen Daisy. Therefore, I throw many parties in hope that I
might again see my beautiful love. I have hope now, because my neighbor is related to Daisy. I
might finally be able to see my beautiful love yet again. Maybe I can talk her out of her
marriage to this Tom character, before she gets her heart broken or before Tom physically hurts
her. If he lays a finger on Daisy, I will beat his face in once I return from War.

July 5th, 1922

This is the day after the huge party I threw in hopes of seeing Daisy. I invited Nick last
night to try out my new hydroplane, I had bought. I had just bought a hydroplane, and was
going to try it out in the morning. (page 47) Want to go with me old sport? (page 47) There
was a fresh breeze along the shore on that Sunday morning. When everyone started to arrive, I
started to hear the false rumors everybody spreads about me. They are absurd but I like to
sometimes hear the wild things people make up about me, just to get attention from others. I was
walking around my party, I heard a couple young ladies spreading these rumors around. One of
the ladies said One time he killed a man who had found out that he was nephew of Hindenburg
and second cousin to the devil. Reach me a rose, honey, and pour me a last drop into that there
crystal glass. (page 61). A bunch of people came to my party, that I have not seen for a while.
A man named Klipspringer was there so often and so long that he became known as the
boarder. (page 62-63) I havent seen Klipspringer in a very long time, so it was it was nice to
see him again. We went out on the hydroplane and had a nice time, until the sun set and everyone
went home. It wasnt as crazy as last nights party, only a few people got drunk. I socialized much
more than last night, but that is only because we were all on my hydroplane that I have just
purchased. I realized that I should just invite people I know to my parties because, there are only
a few people that I like.

June 6th
It was months after I had a party on my hydroplane, I invited Nick to lunch. Good morning, old
sport. Youre having lunch with me today Id thought wed right up together. (page 64) I went
to go get my keys to my Rolls-Royce. We both got in this car. Lunch was in town, so we
started our way downtown. I havent talked that much to Nick since he was at my house, to ride
in my hydroplane. It was a long quiet ride to lunch, in West Egg. To put all the rumors to rest, I
told Nick the truth about me. I am thee son of some wealthy people in the Middle Westall
dead now. I was brought up in America but educated at Oxford, because all my ancestors had
been educated there for many years. Its a family tradition. (page 65) After I told Nick the truth
about me, we went in to the restaurant to meet my old friend. We sat down and I introduced Nick
to Meyer Wolfsheim. I could tell Nick thought that Meyer was a very mysterious man.
Wolfsheim left the table, and Nick asked me what he does for a living, I told him hes a
gambler. Hes the man who fixed the Worlds Series in 1919. (page 73) Shortly after Nick
introduced me to Tom Buchanan, the husband of Daisy. I was so angry when I shook his hand. I
just ran away. Later I just drove quickly home.

June 20th
I asked Nick to invite Daisy over to his house. I have asked Nick and he said that Daisy is
coming over to his place without Tom. I went over to Nicks wearing my best clothes. We were
waiting a while for Daisy, I started to think that she wouldnt show up. It was also raining
outside, and I was worried that it could somehow ruin my whole day. I sat down in Nicks family
and started to become very sad that Daisy wasnt here yet. As soon, as I started to give up I
heard someone come through the door, it was Daisy! I certainly am awfully glad to see you
again (page 87). The rain started to slow down so we headed over to my house. We took a tour
around my huge estate. I could tell that Daisy was very impressed. I started to take out my shirts,
as soon as I started taking them out she started sobbing. Theyre such beautiful shirts, it makes
me sad because Ive never seen such-such beautiful shirts before. (page 92) I told Daisy I could
almost see her house, If it wasnt for the mist we could see your home across the bay, you
always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock (page 92). Soon after
Daisy and I talked to each other for a very long time. Finally she had to return back home to her
dumb husband. When Daisy left, I got ready for bed. When I got to bed I could hardly sleep
because I was so excited from the meeting I had with Daisy that afternoon. Daisy and I both
rekindled the relationship we had with each other before I left for war. I will never forget the
day, Nick helped me get reunited with Daisy.

August 1st
The morning began with the loud banging on my door from a person I have never seen. It was
very early in the morning, so I reluctantly got up to go see who was causing such a raucous at my
front door. I went downstairs and opened the door to find out that this guy obviously was a
reporter. He said, Why-any statement to give out? (page 97) I asked him what he wanted me to
give a statement about, I was very polite when acquiring about this. My papa always told me that
you should treat people the way you want people to treat you. I guess he had heard my name
going around at his office. I told him that he was invading my property so I kindly asked him to
leave. I have not really ever been in the news, however I was close. Contemporary legends such
as the underground pipeline to Canada, attached themselves to me. (page 97) There was one
persistent story that I didnt live in a house at a house at all, but in a boat that looked like a house
and moved secretly up and down the Long Island Shore. (page 97) I guess this is the price I pay
for being rich and successful. It all started when I was just starting out my professional career, I
had changed my name at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed the
beginning of my career. (page 98) I changed my name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby. As soon
as I changed my name, the rumors started swarming.

August 1st

After my interesting morning dealing with yet another reporter. I poured myself a cup of coffee,
and slowly started to wake up. I was sipping my coffee, when I heard people riding on horseback
outside my house. I walked outside, They were a party of three on horseback-Tom and a man
named Sloane and a pretty woman in a brown riding habit, who had been there previously.
(page 101) We sat down for a minute Sit right down. Have a cigarette or a cigar. Ill have
something to drink for you in just a minute. (page 101) We talked for a for quite a while. It
was nice to talking to everyone. I realized Tom might not be that bad of guy. They invited
themselves to the next party I am having. We all come over to your next party, Ms. Gatsby.
(page 102) Said the girl in a brown riding habit, after she was absolute silent during the whole
conversation I had with Mr. Sloane and Tom Buchanan had earlier. It was a very awkward
situation she just put me in. I didnt know what to say so I said Certainly; Id be delighted to
have you. (page 102) I was very reluctant but I thought since they are nice people and I dont
usually socialize at my parties, it would be alright. Very shortly after that girl (I still do not know
her name) asked me that absurd question. She asked Mr. Sloane, Nick, and I to dinner, You
come to supper with me (page 103) she insisted. I wanted to go but the others were reluctant.
When my day was over I wondered where in the Devil he met Daisy. I may be old-fashioned in
my ideas. (page 103) I wonder if Daisy and I will ever be together, and she will leave that slob
of husband.

August 7th
I am having one of my famous parties, this party will be special compared to all the other parties
I have thrown in the past. Everything had really been the same as compared to my previous
parties I have thrown over the summer days. I was very excited because Daisy was coming to
this party, this was my chance to finally win her back from Tom, and to make things the same as
they were before the war. The only downside was that Tom (Daisys husband) was coming.
When I greeted Tom and Daisy, it didnt feel right calling them Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan, so I
called Tom the polo player. (page 105) Tom didnt like this new nickname and because of that
I kept calling him that. I then introduced them to everyone at the party. There were a lot of
celebrities at the party that Daisy thought she recognized. Daisy and I danced for a while, then
we headed over to Nicks house. We had Nick stand guard in case anything bad was going to
happen. We went back to eat dinner, and found that most of my guest were drunk. We sat down,
then Tom suddenly told Daisy that he was going to sit at the other table. As the night came to an
end I could tell that Daisy didnt have that great of a time. I could see the dull expression on her
face. I asked Nick to walk them out when they were outside, Nick said he had a conversation
with Tom. He said Tom said Who is this Gatsby anyhow? Some big Bootlegger? (page 107)
Nick then defended my honor and said that was not true.

August 22th
It has been a couple weeks since I have seen Nick. I heard that Nick came over the other day to
find that I was not home. He asked Is Mr. Gatsby sick? (pg 113) Then he left. The next day I
called Nick on the phone. He heard that I had fired all my servants and hired new ones. I
wanted somebody who wouldnt gossip. Daisy comes over quite often in the afternoons. (page
114) I asked Nick if he would join me for lunch tomorrow at Daisys house.
August 23
We arrived at Daisys house on what might have been the hottest day of the year. As usual I was
happy that Daisy had asked us over for lunch. The only downside to lunch was that Tom was
going to be there. We found Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch, like silver idols
weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans. (page 115) We
all sat down for lunch, making little conversation. In the middle of our conversation Tom heard
Daisy say that she loved me. Well she really didnt say she loved me it was how she looked at
me and Tom knew, She had told him that she loved him and Tom Buchanan saw. (page 119) In
an effort to change the topic, Daisy suggested we go into town. Tom, Jordan and Nick go in my
car. Daisy and I took Nicks car. We are on our way to town when we see Tom pull into get gas.
We continued on to the hotel. We all drank a lot at the hotel and began talking about weddings. I
finally told Tom, She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me.
It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved anyone except me! (page 130)

August 24th
I sat all night staring at Daisys house. I was certain that she would need me. I spent a lot of
time remembering the time Daisy and I first met and how we fell in love. I will keep these
thoughts and memories until the day I die. I wasnt driving the car. Daisy was driving, but of
course Ill say I was. (page 143) I tried to steer the wheel away so we wouldnt hit that woman,
but it didnt help.

I took all back roads and have hidden the car in the garage.

Nick thinks I am going to get killed because he has heard that Wilson is going to kill whomever
killed Myrtle. Nick came over for breakfast. I told him that Daisy was driving the car that killed
Myrtle, not me. I told him that I hoped Daisy would call today. Nick told me something before
he left youre worth the whole damn bunch put together. (page 154) It is two oclock now and
I am putting on my bathing suit before I go to the pool. I gave instructions that the open car
wasnt to be taken out under any circumstances -and this was strange, because the front right
fender needed repair. (page 161) The last sound I heard was something that sounded like a
gunshot.
