TOCKINGTON MANOR SCHOOL PRE Pa TOCKINGTON HEADMASTER’S CORNER Firstly, 'd like to thank all those who came along to the FOTM Curry and Quiz Night. It was a great evening enjoyed by all. Thank you to the Friends for putting on this event again this year. In Mrs West's Year 1 this week, the children enjoyed bring a little bit of Spring into the classrooms with their observational drawings of daffodils. It was lovely to see the children all engaged with this activity. As you'll read later in this edition of the Tracker, Ceredig and Otis have been selected to run for Gloucestershire in the upcoming National Counties event. They ran incredibly well in the Championships at Old Down a couple of weeks ago and we're all very much looking forward to seeing them run again at this next event, well done boys. Well done also to the team who swam at the IAPS Regionals last week, there were many impressive performances. My congratulations go to Rachel Shutt who came first and set an impressive personal best, adding this to her U13 Gloucester County 800m Freestyle Champion title. She certainly is racking up an impressive number of medals! 500 WORDS COMPETITION In Assembly this moming, Mrs Beach talked to the children about the Radio 2 story writing competition, which was launched earlier this month. The excellent ‘500 Words’ competition has been running for a few years now — the brainchild of Chris Evans who wanted to encourage children to enjoy writing (and reading). The competition is open to children from 5-13 years and is divided into two categories; 5-9 years and 10- 13 years, @ To enter, children simply need to write a story that is 500 words (or fewer) in length. It must be typed and submitted online by 23rd Poona) WORDS — and that is it! 2017 In English lessons over the next few weeks, we will be talking to the children about ‘what makes a good short story’ and sharing some of the ‘top tips’ from the 500 Words website Children will need to write their story at home and will need your permission to enter the competition The website, with lots of further information and the entry form, can be found at: http://www. bbc.co.uk/programmes/pOOrfvk1 If your child does complete a story and enters it into the competition, please could Mrs Beach have a copy? We will be displaying the entries in school and choosing our own winner from the TMS selection. {© Tockington Manor School, Washingpoo! SWIMMING, IAPS REGIONALS The IAPS Regional meet started slowly with the 200m relay teams and we shall have to wait and see if the time will be good enough to qualify, but it is going to be very close! Lara Walker, Carmen Rey-Jones, Luna Mirta- Loinaz and lona Campbell woke the team into action with an outstanding 1st place relay swim, beating a tough field The session then went ‘swimmingly’ from then on. There were some pleasing 1% places from Rohan Howard-Robinson, Rachel Shutt, Dalis Jones, Logan Fitzpatrick, Henry Packham, Oliver Edge and Archie West. Rachel Shutt and Jonathan Baguley led by example and managed the team well. Rachel secured a personal best which should put her in serious contention for a top spot. Even Rachel was shocked at her new time - 50 metres in 28.2! Thanks must go to Mrs Wakeling, Mr Mildon and Mr Francis for helping on the day. {© Tockington Manor School, Washingpoo! Hill Road, Tockington, Bristol, The behaviour was exemplary from our Year 8 children who challenged themselves to produce the best they can and really delivered. For this reason, Colours have been awarded and are fully deserved for: Jonathan Baguley, Dalis Jones, Ceredig Jones, James Allen, Rachel Shuttand Angus Duncan In this group, we have County and National time swimmers but also swimmers who have worked hard since Reception, swimmers who have found a stroke, or found that it's polo where they can excel. Also swimmers who have enjoyed challenging themselves in a sport that is not necessarily their primary sport. They all genuinely deserve the accolade and should be proud of all they have achieved, you are all great role models to our younger swimmers - well done! ~Mrs Hinchliffe.
