DENGVAXIA
Dengue fever which is also called as break bone fever is a mosquito borne tropical disease
caused by Arbo virus. It has become global problem since second world war and is common in
more than 110 countries. Each year 50-528 million people are infected and 10,000 to 20,000
people die. The Arbovirus is composed of a single stranded RNA which has 4 serotypes DEN
1,2,3,4 which cause severe and fatal disease. DENGVAXIA is the newly introduced vaccine for
dengue which was first given to a girl on April 4 2016. It was developed by Sanofi Pasteur. The
vaccine contains a CYD-TDV
evaluated as a 3 dose series. It is a live attenuated yellow fever virus 170 strain with structural
genes replaced with corresponding dengue structural genes. The vaccine is in its post evaluation
studies which once proved as safe can save thousands of lives from a serious global problem
DENGUE.
