Whole Group Mini-Lesson: (10:00-10:20)


1. Preview the text, Causes of the American Revolution
2. Determine a purpose for reading (identifying the main idea and key details)
3. Read the text, reflecting on the main idea and key details. Use an underlining tool
throughout. Point students' attention to bold words, titles, topic sentences, and
headings
Guided Reading: (10:30-11:30)
1. Teacher Time:
1. Determine a purpose for reading (main idea and key details). Have students
share what they believe the key details to be. Continue reading using a
highlighting tool throughout. Finish recording key details in chronological order.
2. Must Do Activity:
1. GR Activity: Summarize the text with an opening statement, key details in
chronological order, and a conclusion.

1. Word study activities in Spelling City or Book Creator
2. Take a Literably assessment
3. Read a book of choice in Lightsail, Epic!, or from Book Basket
Closure:
Ask students: Where in the text might you find clues about the main idea? (title,
headings, illustrations, topic sentences).
