    Research shows that wildlife in Thunder Bay harbour is unimpaired by contaminants. Studies of herring gull eggs and embryos found no deformities and contaminant levels below thresholds for impairing reproduction. As a result, organizations involved in the harbour cleanup are recommending removing "Bird or Animal Deformities or Reproduction Problems" from the list of local concerns. The next meeting of the public committee dealing with fish and wildlife habitat will take place on February 8th at Lakehead University.

    BACKGROUND
    ThunderBaysharbourwaslistedasoneofoverforty
    environmentalAreasofConcernaroundtheGreatLakesin
    1987,undertheCanadaU.S.GreatLakesWaterQuality
    Agreement.Urbanization,industrialandmunicipalwastewater
    dischargesandhabitatdegradationwereallcontributingfactors.
    Contaminatedharboursediment,waterqualityissuesandconcerns
    aboutthehealthoffishandwildlifepopulationswerecitedas
    problemsrequiringremedialaction.
    Thenextmeetingofthepubliccommitteedealswithfishand
    wildlifehabitatandtakesplaceat7p.m.onFebruary8thinRm.
    ATAC3004atLakeheadUniversity.Allmeetingsarefreeand
    opentothepublic.Eveningparkingisalsofreeofcharge.
