Drum Solo Comp Flyer
PLACE: Upper Trafalgar Street, Nelson (road will be closed off for the event)
DATE: Saturday 4th March 2017
TIME: During the Big Bang event 10am-2pm. Exact time TBC
WHY: To give students from the Nelson Tasman region the opportunity to to use their
talent at a public event to help raise awareness of Fair Trade.
HOW: Entrants will be nominated by their college and will be given an initial 2 minute slot
for their set in the first knockout round on the day of the Big Bang. There will be 2 drum kits
set up side by side and a panel of 3 judges. 2 drummers will perform against one another in
a face-off with the winner of each going on to compete in the next round with a new 1 minute set.
In the final round the finalists will play a new 30 second set, back to back against each
other, each playing their set twice.
RULES: Competitors will have ready 3 sets of drum routines:
First round: 2 minutes max
Second round: 1 minute max
Final: 30 secs to be played through, alternating between the finalists, twice.
Sets can be original compositions or not. Each round will be judged by a panel of 3 made
up of one independant drum teacher, the sponsor and one other to be confirmed. Judges
decisions will be made on published marking schedules and will be final.
NOTES: For this event to be possible we need 8 drummers. We would prefer each college to have
one participant but if we dont have enough colleges participating, we will invite colleges to
nominate 2 drummers.
Fair Trade Nelson Tasman would like the event to be publicised at the colleges so competitors have
supporters come to the event to cheer on their college drummer on the day. There will be African
drumming workshops towards the end of the Big Bang if students want to participate.
Posters and flyers will be supplied.
