Monica is smart and capable. She has worked in various capacities on Life of Pi,
starting as my assistant during the pre-production in Taiwan. From the very
beginning, Monica has consistently shown a passion for filmmaking, as well as
competence, sensitivity and strong self-motivation. Monica is Chinese-American,
and her bilingual skills and understanding of two cultures proved to be a great asset
on a film which had both American and Taiwanese crews. Thanks to Monica's
thorough organization skill, [ was able to focus on my artistic vision.
During production, I assigned Monica to work for the stereographer Brian Gardner
as his assistant. I thought she was the perfect person for the job because of her
writing skill, patience, and the ability to get things done efficiently. As of today,
Stereo 3D photography is still new to filmmakers. Brian is a talented artist with a
brilliant understanding of the technical and artistic dimensions of 3- D filmmaking.
However, he needs an assistant to read for him, to put everything in writing, and to
manage his daily schedule. Monica effectively acted as Brian's interface, reading the
script and taking notes for him during meetings, and translating his thoughts into
writing at my request. Not only was Monica devoted and hard working, she was also
understanding and thoughtful, which made my communication with Brian much
easier. And when Brian had to go back to L.A. for three weeks, I send Monica with
him so that we could continue to work through her. During her absence from
Taiwan, she worked independently, showing her strength and discipline. With her
assistance, Brian was able to share his thoughts with me and the VFX team regularly.
It was a job well done.
After coming back from L.A., Monica immediate got involved in extras casting. Then
she moved on to work for Splinter Unit as well as AD department. In the end, we
assigned her to work for Tobey Maquire as his assistant. In these instances, Monica's
combination of sensibility and initiative was truly inspiring.

There's a willingness to push beyond the obvious that makes Monica's work stand

recommend Monica to you without hesitation. With her character and experience, I
believe she will take full advantage of everything you have to offer and will become
a great asset to you.
