blurred beach sea waves bokeh lights vintageBack in 1996, Deepak Chopra, wrote a
best-selling book which continues to inspire countless millions today. The name
of that book was simply The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and has been reprinte
d countless times since then.
I first came across this little book in 2004 when I started my own spiritual jou
rney, and I still find tremendous value in it today, which I d like to share with
you.

The hallmark of a great book is that it can be revisited many times yet still st
ay fresh. Each time your consciousness evolves, passages will take on new meanin
g, and new insights will come into your awareness.
Awareness is a quirky thing you and I can look at the same thing but you will on
ly see what your inner vibration will allow at that moment in time, and I will see
what mine will allow. Another way of putting it you see the world as you are.
Our perspectives may be broadly the same, or they may be very different but they
will never be exactly the same! Just think about something as mundane as a mov
ie you really like you might like it but one friend might be lukewarm about it an
d another friend might hate it!

Many people today are overly concerned with following outer man-made laws, rules
and regulations and even scientific laws deal mainly with the physical aspects o
f the Universe, offering little respite for weary souls.
Only more recent discoveries in quantum science point to the infinite possibilit
ies within us, and within our day-to-day lives.
Those who wish to live a life of joy, filled with success on every level need to
look deeper into that which cannot be seen, and hear that which cannot be recor
ded or measured by scientific instruments.
Certainly, there comes a a point in every human being s life when the support of t
he outer world fails, and we are each forced to look inward. At first this can b
e a painful process because it is no easy thing to acknowledge the role we have
played in shaping our own reality but, with time and awareness, we may find our
own brilliance inside; the diamond of the Self that is untouched by the decay of t
he outer world.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy titl
e to eternal life sure through the Christ Consciousness . Matthew 6;19
The Christ Consciousness or Atma is within each man, woman and child. It is not ou
t there somewhere to be found!
The power of learning and applying the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is that not
only do they bring us back to the joy of present-moment awareness, but they als
o bring material and financial success!
They could also be called the Seven Spiritual Laws of Life , because these are the
same principles that nature uses to create everything in material existence.
If there s one thing that turns regular people off spirituality today is the sayin
g that money is evil or some other such nonsense (said by spiritually minded peopl
e!) that has nothing to do with the reality of living a full life.
We need money to buy food (if we don t grow it ourselves) and clothing, pay our bi
lls, pay for our education or our children s, make donations to those less fortuna
te and so on!
The correct use of money also brings blessings to ourselves and others; for exam
ple, we can build beautiful architecture, schools, health centres, yoga centres,
create beautiful pieces of art and music create documentaries and films that ins
pire and uplift . none of this can happen in today s world without some sort of fina
ncial outlay.
Hoarding money and usurping material power for one s personal gain whilst allowing
others to suffer needlessly, that is what has caused all of the ills of this wo
rld.
The seven spiritual laws build on each other, and interweave. Through the holog
raphic principle of interconnectedness, when you focus your energy on one of the
m, others are also activated through sympathetic resonance .
So, what are the laws, and what do they mean exactly?
THE SEVEN LAWS OF SUCCESS
The Law of Pure Potentiality
The Law of Giving
The Law of Karma (or Cause and Effect)
The Law of Least Effort
The Law of Intention and Desire
The Law of Detachment
The Law of Dharma (or Purpose in Life)
Whilst I obviously recommend reading the book (several times over), the followin
g points may be helpful to those who are either new to these concepts or those w
ho wish to have a deeper understanding.
1. THE LAW OF PURE POTENTIALITY
We are, in our essential state, beyond the programming and hypnosis of the condi
tioned mind, pure, unbroken consciousness. Pure consciousness is the field of al
l possibilities and infinite creativity.
In that knowing is the ability to fulfill any dream you might have. The law cou
ld also be called the Law of Unity because in the infinite diversity of life we
see around us is the unity of the one spirit or energy that underpins it. You ar
e not separate from the field of consciousness.
How to apply the law:
If you want to enjoy the benefits of the field of pure potentiality, then you ha
ve to consciously access it. One way to access it is through the daily practice
of silence, meditation and non-judgment. Spending time in nature will also give
you access to it, bringing forth qualities inherent in the field: creativity, fr
eedom and bliss.
2. THE LAW OF GIVING
This law could also be called the Law of Giving and Receving
The Universe operates through dynamic exchange giving and receiving are differen
t aspects of the same flow of energy. Nothing is static. Your body is in constan
t and dynamic exchange with the body of the Universe; your mind is interacting wit
h the Greater Mind the mind of the Cosmos. Your energy is part of the expression o
f energy flowing through the Cosmos.
Consider this deeply. Feel it when you meditate.
In our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the Univ
erse circulating in our lives.
How to apply the law:
To put the Law of Giving into effect, make a commitment to always give a gift wh
erever you go, whomever you encounter. It could be a compliment, a flower or a
prayer. Also make it part of your journey to gratefully receive all the gifts th
at come your way. Some people are good givers but terrible receivers they shoo the
gifts away. Why rob someone else the pleasure of giving you a gift?
Last, but not least, make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in your life b
y giving and receiving life s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection,
appreciation, and love.
However, we must not treat this law with cynicism if we give only to get somethin
g in return the benefit of the action is lost.
3. THE LAW OF KARMA
We sow what we reap in consciousness. Like attracts like , says the Law of Attraction
. Every thought, word and action taken generates a force of energy that returns
to us in like measure. When we choose actions that bring happiness and success t
o others, the fruit of that karma is happiness and success.
When we choose actions that bring unhappiness to others, we suffer. Yet, this i
s not a type of punishment from God. Most people used the word Karma pejorative
ly, and ignorantly.
Karma is an opportunity for you to know thyself . To see clearly the return of energ
y is to understand the deepest aspects of the human psyche.
A lot of us make choices unconsciously, so we don t think we are making choices an
d, yet, they are. I could offend you and you could make the choice of not being
offended, rather than reacting. However, most of us have become bundles of condi
tioned reflexes that are constantly being triggered by people and circumstances.
To break the cycle of a conditioned response, we simply have to practise witnessi
ng . If you step back for a moment and witness the choices you are making as you
make them, then in just this act of witnessing, you take the whole process from
the unconscious realm into the conscious.
How to apply the law:
Ask yourself two questions when you make any choice:
a) What are the consequences of this choice? (The answer may be complex as you pe
netrate all outcomes with your mind
b) Will this choice that I m making now bring happiness to me and to those around
me? (To be inclusive of others shows you are aware of how this law operates; the
ego or conditioned mind often knows nothing of it, and cares nothing of it).
Finally, ask your heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or
discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, you can plunge ahead with abandon.
If the choice feels uncomfortable, you must pause and consider the consequences
of your intended action(s), using your inner sight.
4. THE LAW OF LEAST EFFORT
This fourth law is based on the fact that nature s intelligence functions with eff
ortless ease. This is the principle of least action, and of no resistance. Remem
ber, what your resist, persists when you fight, you unconsciously affirm there is
a barrier to overcome.
When we learn the lesson of non-resistance, we much more easily fulfill our deep
est desires because those desires are in harmony with us, with our pure potentia
lity:
Grass doesn t try to grow, it just grows. Fish don t try to swim, they just swim. Flo
wers don t try to bloom, they bloom. Birds don t try to fly, the fly. This is their
intrinsic nature.
We re not talking about frivolous wants, glorified by an ego that always wants more
and is never satisfied with what it has, but desires that spring from an authent
ic sense of Being that will bring a gift to the world (see the third law).
How to apply the law:
There are three components. The first is acceptance.
Affirm, Today, I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as the
y occur.
Remember, this moment is perfect, as it should be. It may not be to your liking
but the Universe never makes a mistake ever. (That s a tough one to accept, let a
lone live but let it marinade a little in your own consciousness).
Secondly, having accepted things as they are, take 100% responsibility for your
situation and for all the events you see as problems. Taking responsibility mea
ns not blaming anyone or anything for your situation.
Remember, every problem is an opportunity in disguise.
Thirdly, allow your awareness to be rooted in defenslessness. Relinquish the nee
d to defend your point of view.
Affirm, Today, I will feel no need to convince or persuade others to accept my po
int of view. I will remain open to all points of view and not be rigidly attache
d to any one of them.
5. THE LAW OF INTENTION AND DESIRE
Inherent in every intention and desire is the mechanics for its fulfillment.
The fifth spiritual law of success is based on the fact that energy and informat
ion exist everywhere in the quantum field, which is just another label for the f
ield of pure potentiality.
The quantum field is continuously influenced by intention and desire. A flower,
a rainbow, a tree, a blade of grass, a human body, when broken down to their sma
llest, most essential, components are made up of energy and information. The Uni
verse is a great dance of energy and information. The only difference between yo
u and a tree is the informational content and energy of your respective bodies!
On the material level, both you and the tree are made up of the same recycled el
ements: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and other elements in minute amounts.
The difference is in how energy and information is organised and expressed.
We humans are privileged as a species because we have a nervous system that is c
apable of becoming aware of the energy and information content of that localised
that gives rise to our physical body. We experience this subjectively as our ow
n thoughts, feelings, emotions, desires, memories, instincts, drives and beliefs
.
Your body is not separate from the body of the Universe it is only in your mind
that everything can be dissected, or cut up into parts for analysis. Everything se
ems distinct and separate through our normal perceptual filters.
Yet not only is the human nervous system capable of becoming aware of the inform
ation and energy of its own quantum field but you can change the informational c
ontent that gives rise to your physical body! You can even influence the energy
and informational content of your extended body your environment, or world and cau
se things to manifest in it.
This conscious change is brought about by two qualities inherent in consciousnes
s: attention and intention. Attention energises, intention transforms.
Whatever you put your attention on will grow stronger in your life, whether want
ed or unwanted (Law of Attraction 101 people!).
Intention, on the other hand, triggers transformation of energy and information.
Intention organises its own fulfillment. The quality of your intention depends
on your level of Presence, how much you have let go of identification with the
egoic self/mind.
How to apply the law:
Make a list of your desires, carry the list with you and look at this list befor
e going into silence and meditation Look at it before you go to sleep at night a
nd first thing when you wake up.
Release this list of desires to the womb of creation , that which exists within the
field of pure potentiality. Trust that your desires will come to fruition at th
e perfect time and take action when you get that inner nudge!
Practice present moment awareness in all your actions. Be absolutely present and
alert in all that you do, and refuse to allow obstacles to consume and dissipat
e the quality of your attention in the Now.
6. THE LAW OF DETACHMENT
In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the
freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning
.
The Law of Detachment is the sixth law, and says that in order to acquire anythi
ng in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This
sort of attachment can be likened to a grasping a neediness.
This is a powerful thing to do because the moment you relinquish your attachment
to the result, combining one-pointed intention with detachment, at the same tim
e, you will surely have the essence of your desire.
Let go and let God is an expression that springs to mind.
Detachment is based on true power the power of the Self (which is real). Attachm
ent is based on fear and insecurity.
The source of wealth, of abundance, or anything else in the physical world is th
e Self; it is our deepest consciousness that knows how to fulfill every true nee
d. Everything else is a symbol or reflection of that: cars, houses, bank notes,
clothing symbols are transitory, they come and go. Chasing symbols creates anxiet
y, and ends up making you feel hollow and empty inside because you exchange what
is true (your Real Self) for illusion ( Maya ).
Attachment comes from poverty consciousness, because attachment is always to sym
bols. People are constantly seeking security ( what will happen to me in the futur
e? ), but seeking security is a very ephemeral thing. Even if you win 100 million
dollars tomorrow, you will never be secure in fact, it s well known that having mo
re money will amplify existing patterns within the psyche, including agitation a
nd anxiety ( is my money safe? what s going to happen to the stock markets tomorrow? wil
l my money become worthless? where should I invest my money? )
Detachment is synonymous with wealth consciousness. To be grounded in this exper
ience you have to be grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty. In this uncertainty
you will find the freedom to create anything you truly want.
How to apply the law:
Make a commitment to the Law of Detachment by following these steps:
Allow yourself and those around you the freedom to be as the are. Affirm, I will
not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be. I will not force solutions o
n problems, thereby creating new ones. I will participate in everything with joy
ful detachment.
Become friends with uncertainty. In our willingness to accept uncertainty, trust
that solutions will spontaneously arise out of nowhere ( now here ).
Step into the field of all possibilities and be open to what arises. Affirm, when
I step into the field of all possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adve
nture, magic, and mystery of life.
7. THE LAW OF DHARMA
Everyone and everything has a purpose in life.
When we blend our unique talents with service to others, we experience the ecsta
sy of our own spirit. This is the Ultimate Goal of all.
The Law of Dharma says we have taken manifestation in a physical form to fulfill
a purpose. The field of pure potentiality is Divinity is its essence, and the D
ivine takes on specific material forms to fulfil a purpose.
According to this law, you have at least one unique talent and a unique way of
expressing it. With every unique talent and expression of that talent, there are
also unique needs. When these needs are matched with the creative expression of
your talent, that is the spark that creates affluence.
How to apply the law:
There are three components to the Law of Dharma.
The first says that each of us is here to discover our true Self, to find out on
our own that our true Self is spiritual.
We re not human beings that have occasional spiritual experiences it s the other way
around: we re spiritual beings that have occasional human experiences.
So, make the commitment to pay attention to your spirit today, and each day henc
eforth. Awaken to the deep stillness within your heart.
The second component is to express your unique talents. You have a talent that i
s unique in its expression, and when you re doing that one thing, you lose track o
f time.
Make a list of your unique talents, and all the things you love to do that makes
use of them. Affirm, when I use my talents, I create abundance in my life as wel
l as in the life of others.
The third component is service to humanity. This is critical. When you combine t
he ability to express your unique talent with service to humanity, then you make
full use of the Law of Dharma.
This is the real way abundance is achieved.
Ask the question, how can I be of service? rather than what s in it for me? as so many
do. The former is the internal dialogue of the spirit, the latter is the intern
al dialogue of the ego.
In shifting your internal dialogue, you enter into the domain of your spirit, un
bounded by time and space.
In closing .
Universal Intelligence operates through The Seven Spiritual Laws.
If you look at any cell in the human body, you will see through its functioning
the expression of these laws. Every cell, whether it s a stomach cell, a heart cel
l, or a brain cell, has its birth in the Law of Pure Potentiality.
We are each born from nothingness or, better said, no-thing-ness. We are created f
rom an invisible cell that exists only in the field of Pure Potentiality.
DNA is a perfect example of pure potentiality. The same DNA exists in every cell
, yet expresses itself in different ways to fulfill the unique requirements of t
hat particular cell.
Each cell also operates through the Law of Giving, the Law of Karma, the Law of
Least Effort, the Law of Intention and Desire, the Law of Detachment and the Law
of Dharma.
Reflect on these laws every day and start to incorporate them into your life. If
you do, you will rediscover your Real Self, and miracles will happen. The old w
ill fall away easily to be replaced by new beginnings, real abundance that sprin
gs from a genuine source.
