Genetic Disorder Project

Students may work independently or in a group up to 3


Objective:
Become an expert in a type of genetic disorder
Understand how the genetic disorder occurs
Research treatments for the genetic disorder

Written Report:
Each group member MUST have a two page (double spaced) written
summary of the findings with all sources cited. Font no bigger than 12 and no
plagiarism! Everything must be in your own word otherwise you cite it! The
report should include:
1. Name and Description of disorder (approved by me first).
a. history of the disorder
i. when it was first researched
ii. who it is most commonly found in (could be ethnic
backgrounds, young or old).
b. symptoms c. results of disorder (death, blindness etc.)
2. Cause of disorder/disease
a. Type of inheritance (sex-linked, genes etc.)
b. Chromosome number affected
c. Type of mutation (extra chromosome duplication of gene, deletion
etc.)
3. Treatment
a. prevention
b. cures
c. for present and future

Presentation:
Each group will create 1 presentation based off their research. Presentation
must include:
1. Relevant information to the topic
2. Creative/meaningful display
3. Neat and organized
4. Visual aids (pictures, videos, etc.)
