Flight was:
Halifaz-Nova Scotia
It is the Navy's 100 year celebration, the Queen's visit to Halifax and two days before the
Independence day.
the Snowbirds acrobatic team. I met one of the pilots and they said they would not
MRO
Arriving at JFK T1, had a huge line at the DHS,and got to T8 (AA's) 1h previous to STD at
19h00.
I tried to check-in at a self-service kiosk and at final submition got a "unable to check-in,
an agent will help you". And the screen just stops. After 5 minutes no assistant pops up.
there as a common counter line for economy class and no way I'd get through, and the AA
staff don't give a damn you the fligh is leaving soon or not. At 18h20 I went to another
kiosk and got the same message, but there was a AA assistant. He used a card and
validated my passport data. But just before printing the same message was shown and he
did not know what the problem was, he just printed a sheet of paper stating "Call and
agent". he directed me to a ticket service counter, where like 15 peole where ahead of me.
I told him
"are you kidding me? the flight is leaving soon and I still have no info on what the problem
is"
"hey I am just trying to help, why don't you try the Executive Class counter?"
So I did.
At the boarding I understood what the REAL problem was. There as fog in YHZ so they
announced weight restrictions, maybe due to having an far away alternate airport, also
maybe extra fuel for trying multiple approaches before diverting.
So they annouced they wanted volunteers for staying over for the next day, with a AA 250
USD voucher, plus hotel for transit pax.
Otherwise they'd pick the 3 latest pax reserved and would deny them boarding. that would
probably mean me, and I had to be in Halifax early in the morning.
I should have taken the money, because after a few minutes they annouced the flight had
been cancelled due to bad weather, so no compensation, hotel etc.
As I was one of the first to board, they rebooked me right away in the 10h20 flight. No
hotel, they said.
And they had the very arrogant atitude "we can do this, shut up and go home".
I managed to get a sleep at a friend's house in Queens.
Coming in the morning, the same thing happens again. This time by overbooking. It seems
they allow standy pax do go to the gate and also let them in the ground when needed.
The funny is the auction to get the "volunteers".
They announce 250 USD compensation. Then, like 15 minutes later, the bid comes to 300
USD. Last I one heard was 350 USD!!!
They eventually started boarding, and as I had a seat, I boarded right away, and the
handlers don't even say goof morning, or or whatever. They all had the "F*ck off
atitude".
They use air bridges for the E145, and have a nice thing. Inside the bridge there is an
elevator where you put the carry on luggage that does not fit in the overhead bins.
Entering the a/c I can say I liked very much. virgina, the purser, made a lot a jokes and
even put pax talking to each other. Pilots spoke in friendly manner and it was pleasent.
We got freebie water for an 1h25 flight.
