4 Significance of the Study

Philippines served as a stop-over for traders and had also been colonized multiple times,
since then, we adapted to a lot of cultures that are all different from ours. The indigenous
peoples beliefs have shifted over the years of continuous modernization and but they still
practice it up to this day. The Igorots apply their spirituality in everything they do, including
death and burial rituals. This peculiar-yet-remarkable ritual had been practiced ever since both
traders and colonizers cam to contribute to what we call as our own culture.
The researcher believes that this study is relevant to multimedia arts, to arts practice, to
society and to future researches because it will contribute on the advocacy of educating and
enlightening the Filipinos to the values found in the death and burial rituals of the Igorot. Using
3D animation for this short film will be an effective way to portray a story that would focus on
the death and burial ceremonies of the ancient Igorots, and its spiritual and cultural insights to
our present notion of death.
