to Spain just he never had the opportunity to visit the city.

are New Yorkers from all over the world.
2. How did passing through Times Square affect Antonio and why?
He liked it because he thought that all the world was condensed
there
3. Why did Antonio's father say that the Hell's Kitchen
neighbourhood was tough? Because there were a lot of gangs
in the area
4. Why did Times Square remind Antonio of the Puerta del Sol in
Madrid? Because they have a clock with a big ball that tells the
end of the year.

1. What does Thanksgiving commemorate? how the Indians helped
the first settlers.
2. Which groups of people take part in the big parade on
Thanksgiving morning? There are marching bands from high
schools from all over the country, clowns and famous people.
3. Explain how the orphans' dinner got its name. They are a group of
friends who, for various reasons, can't be with their families in
Thanksgiving, so they have dinner together.
4. Why was Antonio surprised when he entered the loft
apartment? Because it was huge.
5. Why are there newspapers written in Spanish in New York?
Because there are lots of Spanish speakers living in New York.

Chapter 3
1. Why was Antonio happy to spend a day relaxing with Jason?
Because his body was getting accustomed to the change in
hours and he needed to rest.
2. What did Elaine tell Antonio about the subway in New York? She
told him that it's the fastest, cheapest and most efficient way to
travel around the city.

majority of immigrants were processed.

1. How did Elaine feel about the Twin Towers? She felt very sad and
like a part of her had been amputated.
2. How was Antonio's friend saved when the Twin Towers collapsed?
He had to be at a meeting at 9.00 am, and he went 15 minutes
earlier. The plane hit the first tower a few minutes after he got to
his desk. It took him 20 minutes to walk down the stairs from his
office on the 40th floor, and when he was outside, the plane hit
his tower. If he had arrived later to his meeting, he wouldnt have
had time to scape.

in the middle of the 1800s? To make a park. They realized that
they needed a park for people to relax from city life

Chapter 5
1. Why did Antonio enjoy seeing New York by himself? He liked to
walk alone and see things that aren't in the usual guidebooks.
2. Why was Antonio surprised when he saw famous people in New
York? He saw them in the middle of the day on very busy streets
and very few people around them.
3. Why did Antonio feel that Peter was taking him to a different
country? Because when he took him to Chinatown,
everything was in English and Chinese.

London and to other Chinese communities in America? It was
bigger and busier than any other in the world.

continents? Because they crossed a street and they were in a
completely Italian neighborhood.

Chapter 6

between the Knicks and the Nets. He read about the Knicks
and the Nets, and tried to watch matches. He also bought a
Knicks T-shirt.
2. What was special about the way that the players were
introduced to the crowd? The players entered the court as
their names were announced with music.
3. How did Antonio ignore Jason's advice about acting like a native
New Yorker? He asked a famous person (Woody Allen) an
autograph.
4. Why did Antonio say he would never go to McDonald's or Burger
King again? Because he tasted the burgers from a sports bar and
he loved them.
Chapter 7
1. How is Antonio going to spend New Year's Eve? Elaines friend is
going to play the piano in a restaurant and some friends will go
and have dinner there, and Elaine invited Antonio.
2. What interesting things can you see at Rockefeller Centre at
Christmas? There is an outdoor ice-skating rink and an enormous
Christmas tree.
3. Why was Antonio surprised when he got to Times Square? The
square was filled with a festive atmosphere, and there were
hundreds of people.
4. What was in the envelope which Elaine gave Antonio? A
photograph of them and a note.

Chapter 8
1. Why was Antonio worried when he checked his e-mails in Almera?
He received one from Jason titled urgent.
2. Why was Jason so excited about being an understudy? Because an
understudy is an actor who is the substitute for one of the main
actors, and if the main actor cant play, the understudy play in his
place.
3. What was the good news that Antonio heard from Elaine when
he arrived at the airport? She told him that Jason was going to
play the main role that night.
4. How do people who are not rich manage to see Broadway shows
and what is the problem about this? There was a place that sold
half-price tickets, but only sold tickets for that night's
performance and only for shows that werent completely full.
5. Why was Antonio filled with admiration for Jason when he stood on
the stage after the show? Because he was living his dream, and
he sang very well.

Chapter 9
1. What happens only twice each summer in New York? A free
classical music concert by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in
Central Park.
2. What is special about the Strawberry Fields garden? the city
dedicated this garden to John Lennon because he liked to spend
time there, and a lot of countries donated trees or plants for the
garden.
3. What are the main features of Central Park? Everything was
designed to be where it was. They bought the land to make
Central more than 150 years ago. They planted more than four
million trees and plants and the lakes were designed and built,
and it took 20 years to finish it.
4. What impressed Antonio during the concert in Central Park? That
everyone was listening quietly to the music.

Chapter 10
1. Why is the Broadway Show League described as a mixture of
culture and sports? Because lots of actors and technicians and
play softball every Thursday morning.
2. Why did Antonio Banderas want to sit with Antonio and Jose Luis
at the softball game? Because he didnt know much about the
sport and Jose Luis could help him, and the said that he liked to
speak with people from his country.
3. Explain briefly why Antonio and his friends had to meet at 11.00
am for a play that started at 8.00 pm. Because people wait to get
their free tickets early, and they organize picnics while they wait
for someone from the theatre give the tickets.

Chapter 11

1. How did Jose Luis get tickets for Antonio to see a professional
baseball game? He worked for a newspaper, and he had to write
about the New York Yankees.
2. What is special about the New York Yankees? They had been
league champions 26 times in less than 100 years. It was a very
popular team.
3. What most attracted Antonio's attention during the game? He
noticed that everyone around them was eating and drinking
constantly.
4. Give two reasons why Jason wanted Antonio to go to the
Carnegie Deli. Because it was one of the best Jewish
delicatessen, and Woody Allen filmed scenes there.

Chapter 12
1. What three facts did Elaine tell Antonio about Coney Island?
It was far away from Manhattan, and rich people used to go
on holydays there. Nowadays it is a recreational place for
people of all classes.
2. What changed Coney Island into what it is today? The subway
reached Coney Island.
3. How did Nathan Handwerker convince people to buy his hot
dogs? He convinced ten vagabonds to have a bath and dress as
doctors in white coats for free food, and then he told everyone
that if doctors ate his hot dogs, it meant that they were good.
4. Why did Elaine ask Antonio to teach her the Spanish for "roller
coaster"? Because she was going to take him to one of the first
and most famous roller coasters in the world. Moreover, she
was going to go to Spain to visit him.
5. Why did Antonio look sad? Because he
didnt want to leave New York and his
friends.

Because he invited all of his New Yorker friends to Spain, and Peter
