Words related to washing & cleaning

1. Detergent A liquid/powder used to wash and clean clothes.


Ex- The stained bed-sheet was cleaned by the maid using detergent with
water.

2. Dusting- To clean dirt/powder off something.


Ex- Every Sunday we help our parents by dusting our rooms.

3. Filthy- Completely dirty.


Ex- The kids jersey was filthy after the football match.

4. Mop To rub/clean the surface with water and cleaner.


Ex- The marble floor was shinning before the arrival of the guest when the
cleaning department mopped the floor.

5. Rinse To wash something under running water to clean and remove


soap/dirt.
Ex- The rain rinsed the dirty ground of the neighbourhood.

6. Scrub- To rub hard with a cloth/brush or a rough surface to clean.


Ex- The lady scrubbed her face with a face wash and removed the spot on her
face.

7. Soak- To leave something in water/soap for a long time.


Ex- A foam soaks a lot of water in it.

8. Spotless Completely Clean.


Ex- Mother instructed the child to keep his uniform spotless when returns
home.

9. Sweep To remove dry dirt/leaves from a surface with a long handled


brush.
Ex- The boy swept the bits of papers from the floor with a broom.
10. Wipe To rub/push with a cloth lightly to clean/dry any surface.
Ex- The teacher asked the students to wipe the dirt off his shoes.
