Dear First Grade Families,
Feedback is an essential part of effective learning. It
helps us understand ourselves, and gives clear guidance
on how to improve. Feedback is more strongly and
consistently related to achievement than any other
teaching behaviour. This relationship is consistent
regardless setting. This is why I make a point to give all
of your children effective, ongoing feedback. Feedback
can improve confidence, self-awareness and enthusiasm
for learning.
This is not only good for our students, but for adults as
learners too. Providing and engaging me with feedback,
will enhance my learning and as a result, your
childrens. Your feedback helps me, help your children
to leave first grade with increased knowledge and skills.
If you have yet to provide me with constructive
feedback on how I can improve as a teacher, please do

Topics Covered: telling time to the hour and
half hour, two-digit number stories
How You Can Help: Look around your house
for different clocks (computers, watches,
phones, etc.). Practice looking at digital and
analogue clocks and telling the time. Help
your child differentiate between the hour
hand and the minute hand.
English Language Arts:
Topics Covered: Phonics au/aw
How You Can Help: identify these digraphs
when reading at home. This week we will be
sending home the ow/ou/oi/oy word sort.
Make sure that your child can read and spell
each of the words.
UOI: Weather
Topics Covered: dangerous weather
How You Can Help: Students will be working
in groups to research a type of dangerous
weather (beginning on Wednesday).
Find out what your childs type of dangerous
weather is, and help them learn more about
it by researching online
and watching
videos on
the topic.
