Purpose
This handbook is to inform every student participating in any of the Lux Chamber High
School Choral Ensembles the guidelines, expectations, and requirements of being part of the
Choral Program here. It is important for parents to sit down with their students and go through
these expectations so that we may have a positive impact and contribution towards the program.

The Choral Program at Lux Chamber High School will not only aid in musical skills, but
to help towards self-growth, a new appreciation for music, inspire one another, and share this
passion with others. We strive for excellence and set a high standard that all students are held up
to.

concerts in replacement.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to catch up and know what was missed during class. If
any new material was learned, you must come in before or after school or ask another student.

Attendance
Students are expected to attend to class every day. Every student is expected to be present at
scheduled concerts and performances.

It is important that we have the participation from every single student as we are an ensemble.
You are expected to be in your assigned seats when the bell rings with your music and pencil,
ready to sing. See Lux Chambers attendance policies on tardies and absences. It is important
that known absences for concerts are to be addressed before and not after the occurrence.
A note must be submitted to Ms. Kim as soon as possible for any excused absence, other than
that the absence is unexcused and will affect your grade.
Participation
It is important that you all stay engaged and participated during class at all times. Always have
your pencil ready for any markings in music. It is required that you are to sing when asked, and
if sick or unable to phonate, you are required to still actively participate with what is happening
in the class and follow along in your music. Your voice is in your body and so your body is also
your instrument. It is important to maintain an appropriate posture for singing either standing or
sitting up.

Electronic Devices Policy

Cell phones do not have to be turned off, but must be on silent during class. Any signs of use of
cellular or any electronic devices will be taken away. First time, you can pick up your cell phone
after class from Ms. Kim. Second time, it will be sent to the Assistant Principals office after
class which you may pick up afterwards. There are to be no signs of cell phones or cell phone
use during concerts!

All those in other ensembles may audition and are encouraged to do so, but it is not required, but
you will not be considered for Lux Chamber Choir if you do not audition.

Those who wish to further their education in music in the future is highly encouraged to audition.
Anyone interested in auditioning for All-State, Ms. Kim will support. This is a great way to see
what it is like to work with the best in the region and work with amazing conductors. There are
many choirs you should be a part of that has much more to offer than I and Lux High School can
offer you. Any opportunity you can take, do not be afraid to do so.

Festivals and Trips

When time comes around, it is important for students to get parents/guardian signatures when
passed out and pay the fees for traveling and attending festivals and trips during the academic
school year. If there are financial issues, come talk to Ms. Kim. Fundraisings for trips will
happen and will be helped set up by the officers in the choir.
Choral Standard Agreement
I/We have read and understood/understand the Lux High School Choir Handbook and our
student has permission to participate in and travel to all choir activities. I/We have also taken the
time to make note of all concert dates and times. I/We understand that choir is a commitment and
will support our child to the best of our abilities for the academic school year.
