week you will be given new ones, you are responsible for completing the reading and assigned

1) When Ruby wakes up early, she often turns to Ivan. Why do you think he is the one she
goes to? When he is talking with Ruby, Ivan begins to remember things from his past and
also to laugh more. What do you think it is about talk to her that brings this out of him?

2) Stella thinks that the hardest thing about being a parent would be protecting your
children. Ivan says that Stella would be good at protecting, and Stella says she isnt so
sure. Why do you think she isnt so sure?

3) Ruby has had very different experiences with humans, some good and some bad. Re-tell
the story about the GOOD thing humans did for her.

During their daily performances, Stella gets weaker and weaker, and more tired until she
can not perform at all. Ruby goes into the ring instead, and the audience loves her. This
makes Ivan worried and sad. Why would this make Ivan worried and sad? (Hint: think
about how Mack treats Stella, the usual performer. What could this mean for Rubys
future?)
