Dear Sir or Madam:

Please consider Desiree Sheltons application to your university. She has been an asset
to my class and to our campus throughout her high school career.

She is currently a second year intern in my Ready, Set, Teach program. In her quest to
determine the type of teacher that she would like to become, Desiree has spent the last
three semesters interning on three different Arlington elementary schools in three
different grade levels. During her time in my class, she has learned how to create lesson
plans that meet the needs of all types of learners. She has read books aloud to the class
and performed lessons that she created with the students. She is also well-informed
about characteristics of effective teachers, classroom, behavior management, ethical
conduct, TEKS/STAAR and is doing a book study on the popular education novel, Teach
Like a Champion.

As a child, she faced adversity. Her personal experiences have caused her to develop
patience and compassion for children. These attributes will make her a fabulous teacher
one day.

While attending Sam Houston High School, Desiree has also been in my Peer Assistance
and Leadership (PALs) class. This is her second year as a PAL. Each year she has been
given 2 children to mentor and provide stability to. She also performs dozens of
community service hours as a PAL outside of the school day.

As a second year student in both my Ready, Set, Teach and PALs programs, Desiree has
become a leader. She not only helps her classmates with classwork but she helps them
with additional projects. Desiree is participating and supporting classmates prepare for
Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) competitions.

She is a very driven learner and is always aspiring to make herself a better person. Her
ability to listen to detail and conscientiously strive to do things correctly is a part of who
she is.

These experiences have taught Desiree how to work well with adults and students alike.

she is. My biggest hope is that my own sons will one day get to have her as their teacher.
