Title: Holocaust Lesson
Grade Level: 6th grade
Unit:

trace characteristics of various contemporary societies in regions that resulted from
historical events or factors such as invasion, conquests, colonization, immigration,
and trade; and
Time Range: 30-40 minutes (not quite sure)
Materials needed:
paper/ worksheets
photos
laptop (kahoot/powerpoint/video)

Anticipatory setting: As the students come in they see the lights off with a short clip playing on
the screen with sad music to draw the students into the class and focused on the screen from
the moment they walk in.
Opening:
1) Objective: Students will be able to display what their understanding of the
Holocaust from the powerpoint/gallery/videos by filling out the crossword puzzle, then
be able to accurately demonstrate their understanding by gaining correct answers in the
game Kahoot.
2) Relevency: Ignorance and denial are two of the causes as to why history repeats
itself. If we do not learn about events in history, they will inevitably happen again
because the people do not know any better. Learning about the holocaust will give you a
greater understanding of how big the world really is and the capacity of what humans
can do.
Instructional Input:
A video will be shown to the students as they walk in. The teacher will then begin giving a
powerpoint lesson incorporating videos, pictures, and information. A variety of pictures will
wither be placed on the back wall. Table by table they will be able to examine the photos on the
wall.
Modeling: There will be many photos, videos, and a game to display the information that the
students need to learn so they understand what will be on the worksheet as well as what will be
on the game Kahoot

Guided Practice: The students will be involved in a game of kahoot with the whole class.
Independent Practice: Students will fill out crossword puzzle to portray their understanding of
the powerpoint.
Assessment: The assessment would be the game of kahoot to test their understanding of the
information.
Closure: A short closing video to explain the summary of the topic and relevance.
