Procedure BEFORE Segment:

The teacher will start the lesson by activating prior knowledge by asking a
set of questions:
What Does ELL mean?
Does anybody know anything about the history of ELL?
Allow the students 30-second pair share for each question and present
their answers to the class. After the anticipatory questions, the teacher will
show a video of the personal accounts of some ELL students. After the
video, the teacher will ask students why they think bilingual education is a
positive aspect for America. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=5HU80AxmP-U (watch to the 1:30 mark and come back to the video at
end time permitting).
DURING Segment:
After the video is complete, the teacher will pull up the "History/Politics
of ELL" Powerpoint. The teacher will go over the Powerpoint, and while
the teacher is talking, the children will fill out the worksheet based on the
notes. After the Powerpoint ends, the teacher will go over the worksheet
with the class aloud and write the board's answers.
Next, the teacher will ask the students to pull out a blank piece of paper
and a pencil, and everyone will make their timeline of what steps were
taken for ELL to be mandated in classrooms. The teacher will make theirs
on the board.
Next, the class will independently log onto their computers and use
Quizlet. The Quizlet set is already made, and the kids will play games to
practice what they know. The students can use their notes. The teachers
will check their progress and completion while filling out the running
record as an assessment.
AFTER Segment:
Lastly, the class will play a Kahoot game together with all the terms from
Quizlet. Any questions that students do not get, the teacher will go over
again.

Formative The students will be assessed when making the timeline together based on
Assessment how well they refer to the Fill in the Blank Worksheet from the notes.
Then the students will play games on a Quizlet to practice and will show
the teachers. The lower score kids will get a check on the running record
for today's activity. Lastly, the Kahoot will tell the teacher what
information they need to go over again to everyone in-depth or quickly
remind them what the correct answer is.
