Leisure is doing what you enjoy during your free time like doing a hobby.

What is the poem about?

Reminds us to take time to appreciate the beauty of nature.

However, if we are too busy with our daily life & worry too much, we forget to
watch and admire natures beauty.

It is a sad life if we cant find time to relax and appreciate the nature around us.

Synopsis

This poem is about our quality of life. The poem tells us that life is rather meaningless if
we do not have the "time to see" the things of nature around us like "where the squirrels
hide their nuts in grass" or enjoy the "streams full of stars, like stars at night". Hence,
our lifestyle is now a "poor life" that is "full of care". The poet shows us all the wonderful
things in nature that we are missing out when we live a life that is so "full of care" and
worries. Consequently, we have no time for leisure. The title of the poem "Leisure"
suggest that we need to take time off to relax and unwind.

we discussed the lessons that can be learnt from the poem. The lessons are:

1. Take time to relax even though we are too busy.

2. Appreciate the wonderful nature.

3. Be grateful to God, the creator of the beautiful nature.

4. God is Almighty because His creations are the greatest.

In couplet 5, nature is personified as a dancer. This is because when nature (Beauty)

changes, they are like the movement of dancers. I asked students to give examples of
how nature can change. Here are some of their responses:

1. Grass moving in the wind

2. Flowers blooming

3. Clouds moving

4. Sunrise to sunset

5. Four seasons changing

6. Formation of a rainbow
7. Trees swaying in the wind

8. Wave crashing the shore

9. Plants growing

10. A caterpillar changing into a butterfly

Moral Values

Lead a balanced life

We must make sure we maintain a balance. We must ensure time is set aside for
leisure so that we become more balanced and harmonious individuals.

Appreciate nature

We must ensure we put aside sufficient time to enjoy what God has given us -
the beauty of nature around us. Life has no meaning if we do not enjoy and
appreciate the beauty around us.

MESSAGE
1. Take a break
Life can get very busy. We might be so full of care that we do not notice what is happening
around us. We need to slow down and enjoy life. Look at the beauty around us and take time
to smile at people. Then we will have a happy life.
2. Manage your time well
We need to manage our time. Being our own time manager we can find some free time. If
we do not handle our time well, we will not get a break and enjoy simple joys of life. Having
no time for leisure will make us unhealthy and unhappy.
3. Enjoy nature
Nature is beautiful. Like the sheep and cows, we should spend time enjoying the beauty and
wonders of our natural surroundings. We should not rush around and miss out on simple joy
os seing beautiful trees, sparkling streams and clever animals.

MORAL VALUES
1. We should be grateful for life and treasure life and do not let it pass us by.
2. We need to love and appreciate nature.
3. Everything we see, touch, smell and hear make our life beautiful
4. We should use leisure creatively to strengthen our minds and hearts.
5.We should practice moderation by not spending all our time working and worrying about
our problems. We need to balance our lives with leisure and enjoyment.
6.Life is transient and what we have today may disappear tomorrow, so appreciate what we
have today.
7. We should take care of ourselves and take a break from our busy schedule.

Leisure
By:William Henry Davies
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like stars at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.
