"DIY Mural Easily Paint Any Image, Any Size W/ Quick DIY Projector." YouTube,
uploaded by Minnie Small, 19 Aug. 2016, www.youtube.com/ watch?v=r5eJ2Lyi7pg.
Accessed 27 Dec. 2016.
Minnie Small is an artist who posts helpful videos with tips on improving artistic skills
such as painting, composition, or others. This video shows how to project an image onto a
larger surface. I used this when projecting my drawn mural design onto my canvases, and I
followed her exact instructions which worked perfectly. This was very helpful in ensuring the
success of my project.

"Human." Human, Anglica Dass, humanae.tumblr.com/. Accessed 30 Dec. 2016.

Angelica Dass is a British artist who photographs subjects and matches their skin tone to
one of the thousand Pantone skin colors. This is an infinite photo project. Dass fills the
background of the picture with the Pantone shade, puts the subject in the center, and lists the
alphanumeric code the company has assigned that particular shade. Her project is titled
Human, and his resource of reference photos was great for me to pick the skin tones I wanted
to use in my fist painting. It also provided me with a base color as well as a real example of the
color to reference while I was color mixing.

McArdle, Thaneeya. "What is gesso?" Art is Fun, Thaneeya McArdle, https://www.art-is-

fun.com/what-is-gesso/. Accessed 30 Nov. 2016.
Thaneeya McArdle is an artist, and she has created this webpage to provide information
and resources to other artists, professional or not. Her website includes lessons on mediums,
guides to supplies, and different artistic styles. This source proved to be very helpful to me since
I was completely unfamiliar with gesso. Her article provided me with a guide to what type of
gesso I should buy, how to apply it, and the benefits of using gesso. This also proved to be
helpful because I truly believe that using gesso improved the overall quality of my paintings. I
also learned from this article that I can add gesso to extend the use of my paint and that was
very beneficial to me as well.
Moore, Jessie Olsen. "How to Paint Skin Tones Step by Step." Craftsy, 8 Mar. 2015,
www.craftsy.com/blog/2015/03/how-to-paint-skin-tones/. Accessed 28 Dec. 2016.
Craftsy is an art blog that many different artists, cooks, artisans, and many more can
contribute to. There are sections on sewing, cooking, baking, art, jewelry, photos, and knitting.
They provide examples and inspiration of projects, sharing tips and tricks for different mediums,
and tutorials. Visitors can also post comments beneath a post to get help or feedback. I used a
blog post that helped me produce skin tones for my fist. I knew the basics of painting skin tones
already, however they were often flat or not accurate. With this post, I learned different colors to
add to my skin tones. The only problem I had with this site was that it only really focused on
white skin tones, not African-American, Asian, or others. Despite this, I could figure it out for
myself and add this new information to my previous knowledge.

Powers, Stephen. A Love Letter to the City. Princeton Agricultural Press, 2014.
"A Love Letter to the City" is a book written by Stephen Powers, an ex-graffiti artist,
large-scale muralist, and sign painter. His project, A Love Letter to the City features a
compilation of his large-scale wall murals in major cities such as Brooklyn, Syracuse,
Philadelphia, Dublin & Belfast, Sao Paulo, and Johannesburg. Powers and his team
"collaborate with neighborhood residents to create sincere and often poignant affirmations and
confessions that reflect their collective visions and dreams." This book and my knowledge of this
artist helped inspire me to create my project and create a design. His large scale, public work
inspired me to create more than one painting/art piece, and his urban, bright work inspired my
color scheme. Additionally, his signs and murals of collaged items inspired the collaged design
of my paintings.

"Racial Inequality." The Huffington Post, TheHuffingtonPost.com,

www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/racial-inequality. Accessed 17 Nov. 2016.
This is a section of The Huffington Post that is categorized by racial inequality. It includes
articles that are personalized and generalized while speaking on issues in the United States.
This helped me in getting more familiar with the subject. I was able to read people's personal
experiences and emotions that have firsthand experience with this issue. Being white and not
encountering these issues, I wanted to understand what racial inequality really is like for people.
These first hand experiences helped me to generate an overall mood of the oppression that
people currently go through and the urgency to solve the issue.
